why not take Nelson?

Why wont O'Brien take a shot on Jameer?

If anyone should know how Nelson plays, it should be O'Brien... Heck, hes even a alumni member at St.Joes.

as far as the roster, why not take a shot at having Nelson matchup in the backcourt with Iverson?

The only reason there's pressure on the Sixers to draft Nelson, is the fact that he's a local product, like an article said, if he was from Wisconsin we wouldn't be hearing that the Sixers should take him. That's how the Philly media is.

So O'Brien did the smart thing, he extinguished the thought so there's no outrage come draft day. The Sixers need a player who has range for improvement, who could also fit into the team right now. As much as people like Nelson, he doesn't compliment what we have now, and he doesn't have much range for improvement.

Like Eric Snow, or hate him, there's no denying that with Iverson playing SG there's not many PGs who can do what Snow does. Snow played really well down the stretch run of the season, and is still very servicable, and his leadership is very valuable to the team.

Also, the Sixers and Jameer Nelson wouldn't be in a good situation if they were combined. Sixers need a guy who has potential, Jameer needs to land on a veteran team where he can just play within himself.

I think Nelson is a good player with decent potential and could be a pretty good player in the NBA, but the main problem is Nelson's height. You don't see SGs with Iverson's height, so you need at decently heighted PG yo balance it out. Having either Iverson (6'0) or Nelson (5'11) trying to guard a 6'4 to 6'6 player would be hard. That said, I think that Nelson would be a decent to good fit on the Sixers and that he can overcome the height problem. Thing is that the Sixers could get better players/fits with less questions at #9.
