How good can Samuel Dalembert become ?
I think he's a force and he totally destoyed my Suns; check these stats: 41mins. FG 10-15 FG% .667 FT 3-4 FT% .750 Stl 1 Blk 3 To 3
Rb 14 Pts 23.
I would love him on the Suns - so here's my $ 1000 question:
HOW GOOD WILL THIS 23 year old kid be ? I am thinking Theo Ratliff at his prime or a bigger Ben Wallace with more offense. You Sixer fans know him better than I - how good can he become ?
I don't think Sixers will trade him or am I wrong ?
Peace, Mike

First, there is no way Dalembert is going to be traded. I don't think you should base your opinion on him one game though. Tony Delk scored 50 before, for one.
How good can he be? He has a great deal of potential but frankly he has a low basketball IQ. He is a good shot blocker and a pretty good rebounder. He doesn't really have a low post game and is getting most of his points off putbacks/dunks. His offensive game is limited right now but has room for improvement. Dalembert is taller than both Theo Ratliff and Wallace, so I don't know if they are the best of comparisons (since i see Wallace and Ratliff as undersized Cs who can block, but Dalembert is normal height) If Dalembert can improve his basketball IQ and develope an inside game he will become a really good player.

I can see Dalembert becoming a Ben Wallace type player with more points but less rebounds.

Should be a premier Center in a few years, especially in the Eastern Conference.
Philly should tie him to a stake. They aren't letting this kid go anytime soon.

But, damn, give him props for even getting them up. He's small enough to have every shot contested. That 39% shooting sounds terrible to the regular reader, but have you seen these NBA players lately?"

If he can maximize his potential, he can be a top ten center in this league. Right now he's just an athlete, thanks to Alex English his game came a long way from his first two seasons to last season. I would love it, if the Sixers could get someone like Hakeem Olajuwon to work with him, because he needs to know how to offensively play like a big man.
Truthfully I don't think the comparison to Ben Wallace is fair, because Sam can get blocks on his man, and when he puts the effort out he can be a solid rebounder. If this guy could gain any basketball skills, the Sixers would officially have perhaps the steal of the 2001 draft. There's no way they can afford to let this guy think about leaving Philly.

Even now, he is considered by some as a top-10 Center in the league.

You know what? I tried to make a list, and then I noticed the centers in this league are so weak, that I can understand why some might have Dalembert in the top ten. I could list eight guys I could say were definitely better, but not much more than that. So I think my statement needs a little tweaking.
The athleticism is there, no problem for the guy, he just needs a ton of work. If he could have the same kind of progress in his game from this year to next as he did from his prior seasons to this one, he'd have a good shot at being an All-Star. Of course he'd have to beat out Illgauskas, with Ben Wallace getting the start despite not being a center.

Dalembert's potential is scary. He reminds me a lot of Marcus Camby, although Camby's game was a lot more polished at the same age. Dalembert seems like a player who could dominate the boards and terrorize the paint on defense, not to mention run the hell out of the opposing team's center. If this kid puts in the work (and he's already improved a ton) there's no reason he can't put up 12, 12, and 3 next year. Those are big numbers but with his athleticism and height, I don't see why he can't do it. I watched quite a few 76ers games last year where he just dominate the boards and swatted the hell out of people. He's only 23. That's scary to think about.

What I'm scared of is O'Brien's system greatly affecting Samuel Dalembert's development. O'Brien likes having a perimeter based offense and a zone defense that doesn't really have the big man rebound and block shots much. I hope that he doesn't use the same system he used in Boston because then Sammy could become just another scrub and end up leaving.
