Wildwood's Vogel joins 76ers' staff

http://www.courierpostonline.com/new...s/s060204k.htm

The Wildwood Crest native was named a Philadelphia 76ers' assistant coach Tuesday after spending the last seven seasons with the Boston Celtics.

O'Brien and Vogel were together for a while at the University of Kentucky, when O'Brien was an assistant coach under former Wildcats coach Rick Pitino from 1994 to 1997. Vogel was a student manager, played for the Wildcats' junior varsity team (1995-96) and spent one season as the video coordinator (1996-97).

Lester Conners joins 76ers staff

Quote:
Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Jim O’Brien announced today that the Sixers have hired Lester Conner as his associate coach, effective immediately.

Conner joins the Sixers after serving the last six seasons with the Boston Celtics coaching staff, where he spent more than two seasons with O’Brien. He also served as a scout for the Miami Heat during the 1997-98 season.

“Lester is a very, very important addition to our staff,” O’Brien said. “He was an integral part of helping turnaround our team in Boston. I am surprised that Lester has not been a head coach in the NBA. His feel for the game, his organizational skills, his on-court coaching and his ability to communicate, teach and develop are of the highest order.”

Selected out of Oregon State University by the Golden State Warriors in the first round (14th overall) of the 1982 NBA Draft, Conner went on to play 13 seasons with seven teams (Golden State, Houston, Indiana, L.A. Clippers, L.A. Lakers, Milwaukee and New Jersey). The 6-foot-4 guard posted career averages of 6.3 points, 3.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game.

In his two seasons at Oregon State, Conner led the Beavers to 52-6 record and two-consecutive Pac-10 titles (1981 and 1982). As a senior, Conner averaged 14.9 points per game and was honored with All Pac-10 and All-America selections. Prior to transferring to Oregon State, Conner played two seasons at Chabot College where he was named co-California State Junior College Player of the Year (1980).
