Rough Opener

We looked pretty solid through the first 3 quarters. Then things just seemed to fall about in the 4th quarter.

With the interior defense not as solid as it once was, it's even more important for AI to come with clutch play in the 4th quarter. Tonight he was nowhere to be found in the 4th. Very un-Iverson-like.

With a shorthanded team, things could get really rough if AI is not on top of his game when we need it.

We showed some signs of some of the pieces being there.

Skinner Van Horn and Long, all did a solid job on the glass

Van Horn was being aggressive, despite the sloppiness and turnovers

Aaron's stroke looks to be in fine form. He shot the ball well. His mental mistakes handling the ball really did us in.

Macculloch was very effective scoring inside in the early going.

Nice to see AI looking to distribute the ball throughout the game, despite not being able to take over in the 4th like he wanted to. Credit Orlando's defense though. They did an effective job of zoning AI. AI's gotta recognize when he's being zoned, and react much quicker. He can't just continue to dribble the ball in place with nowhere to go. Either drive it, or swing the ball and try to get Van Horn something on the opposite side of the floor.

Orlando looks extremely tough. McGrady & Hill were both on top of their game tonight, which could spell trouble for the rest of the east if it continues.

Tough loss, but we've got some winnable games coming up.

Thoughts on the Orlando game?

We dont have one single backup POINT GUARD on our team. Salmons is not a point guard either

They did play well for 3 quarters against a team with whom they match-up very poorly because of the so many good 6'7"-6'9"players who can handle. But with a depleted roster, it would have taken a red hot Iverson to win. He played good team ball. McKie needs to be a super sub and play 25-30 minutes to be effective. He can be the back-up point guard when Buckner, Williams, and Coleman return. McKie will cut his turnovers back to low , I predict.

Van Horn is obviously a fine athlete and player. He is aggresive offensively and on the boards, and was ok on defense last night. Like Snow and McKie, he should benefit form the continuity of having a full roster that plays together. He has one on one skills, but needs to play more with these guys to set them up as well. Van Horn missed some chippies, but he was on the boards all the time.

Mac did his job when allowed to play. No shot blocking hurt against a team like Orlando, but may be a small factor against the jump shooting Bucks.

The new Orlando center, Burke, reminded me of Geiger his first year with the 76ers when he was healthy, before he got hurt and incurred the venom of the 76ers fans. Most fans remember a dog, but he was excellent his first year.

I suspect Orlando will try hard to trade Miller or Garrity for a power forward who rebounds. Two subs like that is a luxury in the NBA. If they can do that , watch that team go deep in to the playoffs.

A solid win tonight would be a good sign. A loss, lost of crying.

my thoughts.....

Personally, I would agree with sixersonline in the fact that we played well for 3 quarters. But the silly dribbling mistakes realllly killed us. Mckie losing control and charging twice, van horn traveling several times, and charging. And Iverson looking a bit iffy. I am sure there is still some rust that needs to be worked out . But i liked the performance by Art Long, who made his case for some cameo minutes.

Tonite should be interesting. I am looking for a rebound win, and a strong output from Allen. We will see boys, We will see.
