i'd say a steal, Celtics team wasn't that stacked . . . only Havlicek and Cousy were HOF players without the champiionships and those came after a mediocre celtic team (last 4 years finished 3,2,3,2 in a 4 team east) traded a HOF center for Russell to add to existing nucleus of Cousy, Sharman, and Ramsey . . . difference between McCauley (HOF center) and Russell (GOAT winner) is the difference between .500 and 11 championships in 13 years. No way he should slip behind Hakeem. Biggest slippage so far. Rest of pick so far all in expected top 10, fun really starts for me as we approach 15 :-}

In 1976 usa team lose against URSS and they denied to collect the silver medal, becouse the think it was a robery. Now the time changes.

Early comments:
No huge stretches yet. Drafting guards when there are legit hall of fame centers or forward/centers left surprises me a bit though. It's really hard to put a competitive team out there without a great center. For those reasons i would've picked Shaq a lot earlier than he got picked and used the 2000-01 version of him. The top 3 picks are locks (i would semi-dislike to have the 3rd pick in this draft and Jordan still on the board, because you HAVE to pick him but then again it's tough to not start out from the middle). After Jordan went at 3, i really hoped i could get a team and start building around Shaq or Olajuwon (which are the next 2 i'd pick in that order if i had a pick between 4 and 9).
Bill Russell was drafted around where i'd draft him as well, possibly a spot or two too late (i'd take him 5th or 6th). Getting Russell when you "only" have the 7th pick though is a really, really nice start.
I see that come question the Erving pick. I don't (not to the same degree at least). Julius was a sick player back in the day, and his 1975-76 ABA season is nothing short of legendary. He led the team in ppg, rpg, apg, stp, bpg and lead the team to a championship. That's unheard of. He also lead them to a championship in 1973-74 and lead the team in ppg, apg, stp, bpg and ranked second in rpg (0.8 behind the leader on his team). I'm not saying i'd pick Erving at that spot (i wouldn't), but it's not a bad pick by any means imo.
Oh, and the first two pick were excellent. I'm going back and forth on those guys (Wilt and Kareem), but getting one of the two bext centers to ever step on a basketball court is one heck of a start when building a team.

Dr J was WAY too early in this draft! That's like drafting 'Nique at that spot!

 just no
-EDIT-
i understand it was a bit early but theres no clear number 12 pick imo, so i took the player had huge overall talents, could do it all, was a winner, was a leader and an innovater.
hes a guy that will be good to build around because he can do whatever is needed on the court.

Wait, are we able to draft from ABA stats or just NBA stats?

In my mind, Hakeem is a definite GOAT contender. Could you name a more complete player on both sides of the ball? Take for example his 93-94 season. NBA DPOY, REG MVP and FINALS MVP. His averages that year...
27.3PPG 11.9 RPG 3.6 APG 3.7 BPG 1.6 SPG
This was the modern era, the era of the centers who will go un named at the moment. Let's say the competition weren't simply 6'8 immobile centers.
He probably will not be considered the GOAT but he should be at the very least considered to be one of the best players of all-time.
