Re: Southwest Division Voting

Will hold off vote for a day or so to let teams post arguments but here are my initial thoughts.
Dallas: interesting inside out team with the big men having the most consistent outside shots and Baylor, Pressey and Wilkes liking the postup (until McHale and Gordon come in anyway). Some defensive holes, good bench.
Houston: Curious to see how Nash fits with the two post-up bigs; going to be a nasty running backcourt though! Weak bench.
Memphis: Very nicely put together team though the bench is lacking offensive spark outside of Hamilton. Might have trouble in the playoffs with Robinson, Pippen and Eddie Jones as your go to guys.
San Antonio: Richardson and Iverson are going to make a lot of questionable decisions but will generate a tremendous amount of fire and energy. Front court is undersized with Reed the only center and Grandmama and Gus being undersized. Three good teams, tempted to go Spurs for their depth but leaning to Memphis . . .at least for the regular season win.

Houston is, IMO the most dangerous team. Memphis has some nasty defense, but I think that the Rockets can overcome it with Kareem taking everyone's attention. Also, what makes Nash work better than a big guy that can hit a perimeter jumper, well in this case it would be a Sky-Hook. It doesn't matter if Nash can't guard a door, he has Wade, Artest, Brand, and Jabbar to help.... that's some QUALITY help. Not to mention, the seasons that Nash has been selected are quite possibly on par or exceeds many if not most of the GOAT PGs.

Re: Southwest Division Voting

The Rockets have the best starting five, but the Spurs probably have the best team. The Nash-Wade-Abdul Jabbar combination is awesome, and with good help from Brand and maybe from Artest, that's an excellent starting five. But Artest can certainly be a major problem, and I wouldn't want him on my team. The Spurs have a very quick backcourt with Richardson and Iverson that will rack up a lot of steals. They have an excellent scoring combination with Iverson and English, and an excellent all-around center in Willis Reed. And the frontcourt would be even better with Haywood starting instead of Larry Johnson. The Spurs have a great bench, certainly a huge advantage over Houston's and the other teams in the division. They have a HOFer in Goodrich, and Gus Johnson was a beast, many think should be a HOFer, as probably should Haywood and Guerin. If they move Larry Johnson to the bench then he's a nice player to have off the bench, as is Rudy LaRusso who played five All-Star games, and was a very solid defender and rebounder. Houston is going to have to tire their starting five, because their bench is weak.
Memphis has good starters, the Pippen-Robinson combination is great, and Alvin Robertson is a very good underrated all-around player, but it's too much of a defensive team. There's not enough scoring there. And they don't have much fire power off the bench either. Richard Hamilton is going to have to be their top scoring threat off the bench.
Dallas has an excellent passing PG in Kevin Porter, but he wasn't much of a scorer and neither was Pressey who was very good defensively. The combination of Elgin Baylor and Dirk is awesome and will score and they'll need to because Divac wasn't much of a scoring threat either. Heck, I'd be tempted to start McHale at center instead of Divac. If McHale stays on the bench, they have a HOFer coming off the bench, along with a very good all-around player in Jamaal Wilkes, a very good PG with Norm Nixon. Caldwell Jones will provide good defense and rebounding. Ben Gordon is young but a good scorer and clutch player.

Re: Southwest Division Voting

aaaaaanyways
offense is awesome I mean we have a great PG in Michael Ray and a good passing guard in Allen, at times Allen can just drive and score, at other times he or Michael ray can dish down low to the great haywood or reed. Alex English has a good J and was a very good scorer who can get some wide open look when the D collapses.
and coming off our bench we have energy with Grandmama and GREAT defense with johnson, larusso. Another great scorer is Richie guerin who would be able to score with ease.
OH AND SPENCER HAYWOOD IS STARTING I HAD THAT IN MY SIG DAWG.
btw LOOK at these numbers
PG: Micheal Ray Richardson

Kareem, Wade, and Nash supported by Brand, Artest, and a solid bench that compliments the starters well. Don't mean to take anything away from the other teams in this division, they're great too, but the Rockets are just on a slightly higher lever IMO, because of Kareem, Wade, and Nash.

The Rockets are one hell of a team. Nash-Wade-Jabbar is a sick trio, but IMO Artest will really hurt this team with all of his distractions and also just picking current NBA players didn't impress me.
The Spurs are great dont get me wrong, but Iverson and Michael Ray Richardson's off the court issues could really hurt.
The Grizzlies IMO are the team to beat in the divison. I just love the Duo of Pippen and Robinson. Both men are class-acts and champions. What else can you ask for? They could've used another talented scorer on the bench or so but they still get my vote.

The Spurs and the Rockets were the two teams I have to pick between. The Grizzlies are also good, but just not good enough. I went with the Spurs because, while the Rockets have a slightly stronger Starting 5, their bench is just too shallow. Guys like Okur, Deron Williams, Deng and Big Z are decent, but just not on par with other older guys.

If there woulda been a coaching round I woulda gotten a coach known for straightening out players with low morale like Pop, or Brown in his prime.

Explain to me how the rockets are better with the weak 0 defense bench? Our team will go through them! Might take an early 6 point lead in the first but come down to it we oughtta win.

Re: Southwest Division Voting

It's Kareem, Nash, Wade, Brand, and Artest as the starting 5?!? Artest is one of the best perimeter defenders. Wade can check AI without needing too much help (if any) Kareem vs. Reed? I give the slight nod to Kareem, just by a hair...one mile long. Nash is in the Top 5 for PGs in this thing. You can be assured that this team has enough firepower with Wade and Nash in the backcourt. When Nash needs a rest, he has Deron? The only weakness is Kareem's backup.... but he's probably going to play his prime numbers of 40+ mpg. I just don't see how the Spurs can even attempt to keep up with them. Brand will own LJ on the offensive end and quiet LJ on the defensive end.
That's just my opinion, but you do have the second best team IMO.
