Steve Nash can't wait. The catalyst of the Phoenix Suns, the NBA's top-seeded team, already has left Dirk Nowitzki, his best friend during a six-year run in Texas, a message on his cell phone.
Nash isn't ready to share it. But the nine-year veteran, lured away from Dallas with a five-year, $65 million free agent contract after last season, is looking forward to a potential matchup.
"They're starting to play great," Nash said Tuesday of a Mavs team that has won three in a row for a 3-2 lead in their series against the Houston Rockets. Dallas can close out the best-of-seven series Wednesday night with a victory at home. "It'd be a great series and a lot of fun to play against my old teammates."
He has plenty of motivation. "No one likes to lose to their buddies," Nash said. "They can remind you of it all the time."
The Suns won two of three games against the Mavericks in the regular season with Nash averaging 18 points and 14.5 assists in the two games he played. He missed the third in late February with a foot injury.
It's official. Nash will be seeing his old buddies Monday. Hopefully he doesn't go and get drunk with Dirk. That should be Paul Shirley and Jake Voshkul's job. Go party with Dirk and get him drunk and wasted
