Suns guard Raja Bell, who was bothered by right knee pain during the second half of last season, underwent successful surgery on the knee Thursday at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix.
Team physician Dr. Tom Carter, who performed the surgery, said it was a routine “clean-up” procedure and that Bell should be full speed for training camp in October.
“Raja had mild wear and tear of his kneecap,” Carter said in a statement. “He should experience a full recovery in four to six weeks without any limitations on his play.”
Bell played in 78 games last season, tying a career high by averaging 14.7 points and was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive team (first team) for the first time in his career. His 205 3-point field goals made tied Gilbert Arenas for the league lead. Bell missed two games with a rib injury and one with an inflamed left knee (a fourth was missed due to suspension), but Bell played through the knee pain late in the regular season and into the postseason.
