Suns Talked Marion Trade With Jazz
Arizona Republic -
Quote:
The Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz tossed around the idea of a trade sending Shawn Marion to Utah for Andrei Kirilenko last month but they did not move pass the stage of talks and the discussion of swapping versatile forwards has been tabled for weeks, the Arizona Republic is reporting.
Marion, 29, frequently comes up in summer trade rumors and talks because of the Suns' payroll situation, which has them over the luxury tax threshold with contracts that will pay its big three - Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire and Marion - $41.6 million for the coming season and $45.1 million in 2008-09. Marion is the team's highest paid player at a salary of $16,440,000 this season and $17,810,000 in 2008-09, the final year of his contract.
Marion is eligible for a contract extension this summer but the chances of that appear doubtful. Marion could opt out of his contract after the coming season.

Interesting.
I think there is more of a chance Marion opts out and then signs an extension with us than opting out. Either way, I doubt he opts out.

Re: Suns Talked Marion Trade With Jazz
I think that he'll get an extension but not for 20m/year. Other teams won't offer him that because he shoots 30% from 3pt land. He can't create his own shot, and survives off of hustle. Which is great now, but when he's 33, 34? I don't think that his athleticism would be that spectacular at that time. I'd offer him at most 15mil/year as an extension. But I'm not the owner. So hopefully he'll retire a Sun

Re: Suns Talked Marion Trade With Jazz
indeed horrible. Kirilenko for marion is no upgrade, sure his defense is better, but marion is far far too valuable to us than kirilenko would ever be.
I think instead of trading 2 comparable defensive fowards, we need to get a trade for a defense oriented player for one of our offensive oriented players. But who, i doubt we make any more noise.
