When training camp began in early October, it was the elephant in the room — the most obvious impediment to the Suns’ elongated championship chase and the kind of divisive issue that can quickly infect a locker room.
But a week after comparing his situation with the Suns to “a bad marriage” and telling several media that without a contract extension it might be better if he moved on, Shawn Marion showed up at media day unwilling to expound on his comment. He turned the focus toward basketball and refused to discuss the matter beyond his usual “it is what it is” rejoinder.
Ten games into the season, Marion has stayed good to his word. Think about it. When was the last time you heard anyone mention the stalemate or the rift? The last time you heard Marion even refer to it, much less speak about his off-court displeasure? Meanwhile, his vow to concentrate on basketball has been just as true. He opened the season with six consecutive double-doubles, and then turned his attention to turning up his defensive intensity during the current five-game Phoenix winning streak.
Grant Hill and Leandro Barbosa struggled early with shooting. Raja Bell, Boris Diaw and Amaré Stoudemire have been hampered by injuries.
Hill and Brian Skinner have been working to fit with their new team.
Marion? Same old Shawn — pumping in 17.7 points, grabbing 11.7 rebounds while making 0.0 waves
I am a Shawn Marion fan and I hope he changes his mind but Marion will struggle without Steve Nash if he were to leave the Suns...
He's not going to get the contract he wants if he does opt out because don't think for one second that teams don't notice when he plays in the playoffs and he's nowhere to be seen..
