Skinner playing BIG
Quote:
The Suns beat the Knicks 115-104 Sunday night.
In Suns big man Brian Skinner's 19 minutes, Phoenix outscored New York by 13. He was that decisive after he first entered to help Amaré Stoudemire avoid a third foul with 1:16 to go in the first half.
His real impact came in the third quarter, just as New York had made it a tight game. Skinner blocked three shots (he got credit for two) in the quarter's final 2:10.
The Knicks' inside tandem of Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph went quiet with Skinner alongside Stoudemire or Boris Diaw. Against Stoudemire and Shawn Marion, Curry and Randolph threw around their weight and elbows.
"Our defense really rose to the occasion, and he (Skinner) was a big part of that," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "We're better defensively (with Skinner), and he can help us running because he's athletic, so it's the best of both worlds."

He has been dynamite when he gets playing time. He is quite the shot blocker.

Re: Skinner playing BIG
I wonder how long until he cracks the starting lineup.

Re: Skinner playing BIG
I don't think he'll crack the starting line-up. Seems like D'Antoni likes using him as a defensive catalyst, which is just fine with me. Love the way he's playing so far. He's going to get better as this team continues to gel.

Re: Skinner playing BIG
I've been ecstatic about Skinner since he's started playing for us. He has honestly been a bigger impact player than Kurt Thomas who, while a better 1v1 post defender, doesn't alter shots around the basket like Skinner. Skinner has been a difference maker on defense and does a lot of little things on offense that make it so there's no real drop off in having him in the game.
On a similar note: Boris Diaw has been playing very good post defense. Better than last year. He may actually be the best post defender on our team.

Re: Skinner playing BIG
I agree he is like a hybrid of Bo Outlaw and Kurt Thomas. Well, he's somewhere in between those two guys. Not as polished as KT and not as much energy as Outlaw, but a fantastic mix of both.
