Durant will evnetually be the better scorer, rebounder, and defender of the two, but he simply doesn't posses the court vision to approach Mcgrady as a passer. They would probably be around equal at their respective primes (barring injury to Durant, ofcourse) but since I think that Durant will have a supirior supporting cast, he'll probably be looked at as the better player in hindsight.
I see the similarities in their games - I'm talking prime T-Mac obviously.
They're both long, athletic, explosive scorers. I think Durant is already a better scorer than Tracy ever was, mainly because he's even taller and has freakishly long arms that make it damn near impossible to defend his shot when he's on. Durant's the better rebounder by a mile. He's got the better post up game. Both of them have/had the potential to be better defenders, but use most of their energy on the offensive end. I think Durant will learn, though.
The only edge I'd give to Tracy would be his passing ability and ability to create for his teammates.
At one point, I think Tracy was a top three player in the league. I think once Kobe retires or slips noticeably, Durant will be the unquestioned second behind LeBron.
I'm going with K-Diddy as the better player.

T-Mac's post game is vastly underrated. He was arguably the best post up wing in the league. I don't think Durant is on that level with the post up. Durant right now is about even with rebounding, but will get better. Defense is another story. T-Mac was a shut down defender in Toronto and would still lock down someone occasionally afterward. I think Durant could be in that stage where he could lock down an opponent for stretches at a time like the other wings. The passing game would be the one gaping difference between them.
T-Mac's post game was much better than KD's now. T-Mac was also a more explosive athlete with better ball security in traffic which allowed him to get to the lane to score or collapse the defense to create for his team.

I don't know how anyone can comment on KD's post game. I must've watched at least 20 or 25 of Durant's game this season, and I've probably seen him post up a total of less than 30 times. You can't judge his post game unless his team's offensive philosophy puts him in a position to utilize that portion of his game.
The Orlando Magic T-Mac was arguably the best player in the league at that time. Him and Grant Hill were supposed to be the next Michael and Scottie. Grant was always injured - but somehow the Magic were still getting to the playoffs with Darrell Armstrong and Mike Miller as the number two and three options. Incredible.
I just don't see KD doing the same stuff on the same team - as far as leading them to the playoffs. Right now, give me T-Mac in his prime.
If anyone here honestly thinks that KD won't rise above the level of prime T-Mac, they're sick in the head.
KD's offensive game is so much more varied, and he's legitimately taller and longer than T-Mac. The post game will come. People are forgetting that he's just 21 years old and averaging 30 PPG. T-Mac was about 25 or 26 when he really started putting up any sort of numbers that stack up to what KD is doing now.
McGrady - sorry to say it - was never a winner. His body just never allowed him to be. He broke down late in the season year in and year out. Durant has OKC winning in the Western Conference with a cast of young and niche players.
McGrady was a hell of a player, one of the top scorers in the league, but I don't think he ever got "it". He only attempted to play defense against other superstars, and he was never able to take over games when it really mattered the most.
I loved having him in Orlando, but if you asked me whether I'd rather have prime T-Mac or KD right now, I'm taking KD every time.

That 3 year span Tmac was the better and more efficient scorer between the two. His offensive game was unstoppable. In Houston he was the far superior post up player, passer and defender. Sure Durant has the ability to be better, but I dont think he's going to magically improve on defense and passing ability over Tmac. He only has a chance to be a better scorer. Thats it.
Granted, this is talking about peak performance. Durant will probably go down with having the better overall career though. For obvious reasons...
I'm with Vanilla, I go with T-Mac because he ran the offense whereas Durant has the rebounding edge. But would you rather your star 3 run the offense or get rebounds?
