My favorites are Jackson Browne and Bob Dylan
I've recently found Bob Seger to be quite poetic also.

Not a band, but I wish I could write like this. I honestly think Illmatic and Reasonable Doubt's lyrics are better than any poem I've ever read. Rap (this kind, not the kind portrayed by the media) to me can be potentially an advanced form of poetry.

Jim Morrison of The Doors is a great poet.

Jim Morrisson is like a 5th grader with a rhyming dictionary... just saying.
For my money, Paul Simon was a great lyricist..

 Well I won't lie, I don't read much actual poetry, so in comparison Jim Morrison may be pretty bland. Actually, this is off-topic, but does anyone have any poet suggestions for someone without much exposure to real poetry?
