I don't think anyone is suggesting that personal emails should be published. The Palin "personal" account was published because she was illegally conducting state business on a non-government account to intentionally circumvent open records laws. And just for the record, if you're a government employee, your work email IS fair game for FOIA (and the state equivalent) requests. A few professors at the University of Wisconsin got reallllly embarrassed over that.

Re: WikiLeaks nominated for Nobel

Wikileaks are criminals.... blah blah blah. Wikileaks is releasing documents that detail people calling each other *******s and douchebags. Wikileaks shows that the US has been doing shady **** in the military. They shouldn't be rewarded for such behavior! Telling the truth is bad. Life is like a reality game show, we all huddle in secret and then, BAM! hit ya upside the head with an elimination vote.

Wikileaks is just watching you making an ass out of yourself on national tv.

Really?

If you didn't already know this long before WikiLeaks, I have a bridge I would like to sell you.

Well, there are definitely situations where releasing information would be much more detrimental to public safety then keeping the information secret.

I am not sure why some people think the opposite is true.

So you had proof of all of this long before them? You have access to Top Secret information? Well, unlike you and your amazing security clearance levels, I don't so I didn't know of these documents until they were released.

But are these documents that sensitive? the events have long passed and no names of active or past operative were leaked. So..... yeah. I would like to think that no one's public safety was endangered by this.

Actually, I did have TS clearance in my old position.

But most of this stuff was public. I guess you never heard of the Pentagon Papers.

That's because you are not considering all the facts that surround each leak. Perhaps if you were the central informant involved in one of these operations and your name was leaked along with the facts of the case, and the people you informed on were still alive (out there somewhere), you would feel quite differently.

No operatives names were leaked. This wasn't leaked by the white house, this was leaked by the newspapers. Wikileaks let the papers sift through the documents and report.

That's the risk you take when you chose to be a 'secret' informant... If a little kid tattles on some friends in secret, and then later someone identifies his name publicly... how can he be mad @ anyone but himself, for putting self in the situation?

Also, is the informant really a noble guy or is a guy looking out for self-interests? We dont know these guys. Im all about saving lives, but im irked that we want to talk about these 1 or 2 informants lives before the 10's of thousnds of civilians taken in the revolution. How many civilians were lost in Egypt's revolution compared to Iraq? There can be no peace w/o justice, and there can be no justice w/o peace. Do you understand this concept? This is why WikiLeaks has a nomination. Have to work from one point, to go to another.

By releasing the information, you're just further discouraging people from being informants.

again, whose names have been leaked? Every name has been blacked out in the leaks by the responsible news media. They have been diligently pouring over the wikileaks and expunging names
