At least 75 or 80% of the people in this country are disgusted by the sort of stuff Limbaugh espouses, but they don't matter. His audience eats this sort of stuff up, although I would guess that even a lot of them think this is too much.

I wonder if this young lady would be described as a public figure in the libel or slander laws. I don't have any expertise whatsoever in this area, but it seems to me that at the very least this is the sort of thing your attorney would not wish to take to a jury if you were sued for saying it. I personally would sue Limbaugh and every single radio station in this country that broadcast such an unwarranted attack upon my character. Now that I think about it this seems like something that the FCC might not like. The airwaves belong to the Public and I don't think that the public really supports this sort of use for them.

Not only is she not a public figure, but allegations of "unchastity" in a woman is grounds for defamation per se. Even if she is a public figure it could be said that Rush acted with reckless disregard to whether these allegations are actually true. The only defenses I can see is that this is opinion he is stating, not fact, although saying someone has so much sex they can't afford birth control does seem like a fact rather than an opinion; and the Hustler defense, basically where a parody is so ridiculous that it can't possibly be true, which I actually don't think this is either.

Really hope she sues the **** out of him.

People talk about the contracts athletes get for playing a game. I believe Limbaugh's last deal with Clear Channel was 8 years $400 million or something like that. At least athletes are talented.

As e-monk stated above, he finally issued an apology (of sorts), but I don't think this is the end of it.

And if sponsors weren't dropping like flies in 100º plus heat, we may never have seen this apology.

But $400 million (or whatever he got) isn't pissing in the wind...obviously, the guy has a huge following. He could be caught on video violently raping a two-week-old male kitten, and most of his audience would still defend him and be enamored with him completely.

I would guess that the apolegy is mostly a legal figleaf and was probably ordered by the people who put him on the air. If he had continued to make these attacks any longer and the network had continued to allow him to put them on the public airwaves I suspect that they would be exposing their entire corporation to massive legal jeopardy. They could argue that they were not responsible the first time he said and they broadcast it, but then he made the same assertions again and they broadcast them again. He ridiculed people for taking offense that he called this young lady a slut. At that point the people putting him on the air can't continue to put him on the air unless he stops being a moron or at least stop being a moron who is likely engaging in a some level of criminal slander/libel/defamation.

Did he say that she's not slut in his apology? Because those are the defamatory remarks, and it would not be surprising if he got a letter from her attorney demanding a retraction.

And those things are serious, hell Draft Express still has listed as a "feature" an Apology to Joel Bell, whoever that is from several years ago.
