So you're again saying that the Indiana state legislature and the governor aren't the government? And I'm out of touch with reality? All the legislature did was uphold the traditional standard that the fourth amendment to the federal constitution represents a restraint on the power of government and add in the codicil that homeowners be held to the same "honest mistake" standard that police officers have in firearm incidents, providing that they were actually justified. That's it.

There won't be gunfights at the OK Corral. Indiana won't break out into a bad Paperlace song. If on the offhand chance that one of these incidents does happen there, however, the poor bastard won't get crucified for a police error. The truly hilarious part is that you're stomping your feet, crying, and shrieking at the top of your lungs "DON'T U UNDERSTAN U MORON THAT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WILL DIE!!!!! UR CRAZY!!!!" while the "crazy person" is saying "Really nothing much will change as a result".

There is an easy way for the police to deal with this law. Stop using heavily armed SWAT teams to serve simple search warrants and dial down the militarisation of the drug war. Because, really, if police departments just stopped using wannabe soldiers to serve simple search warrants the violence of these incidents would decrease dramatically. And this can't be argued because statistically speaking the violence of drug raids has increased with the level involvement of SWAT teams in these incidents.

I agree completely. I made a post referring to the one time I was detained, but the officer didn't arrest me. Basically, I was having out with some friends when a cop came up to me, handcuffed me, nearly breaking my arm in the process all because he had the description of a white male 6'0 tall with brown hair a white t shirt and jeans got into a fight and kicked some guys ass. He drove me over there where they said it wasn't me and he drove me back. I would have cooperated had he asked for it. No one wants a fight when they're outnumbered or outgunned.

Cops can easily secure the room without violence.

Hey, how many people have died in the new wild west since the bill passed? I mean, seven months? There must be at least 500 dead by now. I mean I haven't come across any stories about Indiana residents doing drive by shootings on police officers, but that must be a Fox News Conspiracy, exercising their evil power on MSNBC, CNN, etc..

The only reason I even thought of this thread is that someone emailed me a story last night about Tampa cops tasering a man for attempting to halt the spread of a fire in one of those tract housing developments by hosing down his roof and the fence separating his house from the one on fire, because the police thought everyone would be safer by letting the fire spread unchecked while waiting for the fire department to get there.
