According to WGBA-TV, police fire crews found the homemade explosive outside a window sill that they believe had set off a small fire, which burned out before fire crews arrived. The building sustained a small amount of damage.

The FBI has joined with the local police department to investigate the bombing. Leonard Peace, a spokesman for the FBI's Milwaukee Division, told The Huffington Post that the agency was notified of the incident on Sunday evening and initiated an investigation on Monday.

"The information that I have is that an unknown suspect placed a device at that location last evening, approximately 7:30 p.m.," Peace said. "The device caused minimal fire damage to the facility. At this point in time, we're reviewing the evidence to determine exactly what type of device it was."

Grand Chute Police Chief Greg Peterson told the Appleton Post Crescent that the bomb was made out of a plastic bottle and chemicals and "included agents of an incendiary quality." He added that he had not heard of any threats to the clinic prior to Sunday's incident.

Planned Parenthood has 27 health centers in Wisconsin, and three of them, including the clinic that was bombed, offer abortion services. The fire from the bomb caused minimal damage to one of the exam rooms in the clinic, which is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, said Teri Huyck, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.

"Our primary concern today -- as always -- is our patients, staff and volunteers," Huyck said in a statement on Monday. "Women deserve safe and compassionate care, and we are proud to provide it. Rest assured, our doors will remain open for the thousands of women who rely on Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin each year for high quality health care.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the law enforcement agencies working with us to ensure Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin continues to be a safe and trusted health care provider," she said.

According to the most recent statistics from the National Abortion Federation, there were 114 violent attacks against abortion providers in 2011, including three physical assaults, one bombing, one incident of arson, 27 counts of vandalism and eight burglaries.

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, who is currently campaigning in Wisconsin ahead of Monday's primary, responded to news of the bombing in a statement on Monday.

"While we can and should work to defund Planned Parenthood and push back against government mandates that force Americans and religious institution to violate their faith," Santorum said. "Violence against our fellow citizens has no place in a freedom-loving America."

Violent acts against abortion clinics happen. I posted this for Santorum's comment. Since when are Americans forced to get abortions (aka violate their faith)?

Abortion. Right to choose. Killing babies. Lets have a good ole discussion on abortion.

If my half attention to the whole Republican mess is any indication, his comment is referring to being forced to provide coverage to employees that would cover abortions and such. Something like that.

I stay out of all that mess for the most part.

The guy couldn't even make a bomb that did much damage. Pathetic.

I think they need more strict laws in place for tracking and limiting how many abortions you get, I'm not against them in general. I just don't like them as a form of birth control for the poor, lazy, and slutty.

This is either someone who didn't know how to make a decent bomb or someone who chose not to make a decent bomb. Unless they lack access to the internet it's probably the latter.

I am not in favor of abortion, but I also don't want to pay higher taxes because people are having kids they don't want and can't afford. It's a nuanced position so it probably has no place in the American political discourse.

the problem is if you believe it's murder you feel a need to do something about it - babies are being murdered after all

but if you believe that a person is a thing that doesnt happen until a certain amount of fetal development has occured then it's not murder and stay the hell out my business

comes down to murky ill defined beliefs like whether there is such a thing as a soul and how many angels you can crowd onto the head of a pin etc

if you cant answer those questions definitively and to the satisfaction of all you will never see an end to this debate and there can be no resolution - I go back and forth myself - I dont like telling people what to do with their lives, dont want people to tell me what to do with mine and dont like a government doing it either but understand that a government does have to do some of that because you know crime, murder, bad driving BUT is it murder? I'm an agnostic so I dont ****ing know, but what if it is?

Classically speaking, a soul is man's higher volitional/intellectual being. It was Descartes that screwed up the simple definitions used by the scholastics, and so now we've gone from thinking of it as a Cartesian immaterial substance to something nebulous. But really all that older writers meant by it was that people were imbued with the ability to think and act.

I think that if something isn't generally agreed upon, we should err on the side of not restricting liberty. Actual murder is agreed upon, so we punish that. Abortion is not agreed upon, so we should allow it. Same with drugs BTW.

I think it certainly needs to be available in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother's life may be in danger. In other cases it needs to be regulated and is not used as a form of birth control.

Who cares who gets an abortion? Have enough and you won't need another because you're sterile. Have all you want, it's no different than using a condom. Just one is more physically damaging. That baby wasn't wanted, they mom wasn't ready to have it, let it go.

I think there are enough that it should be regulated.

If some slut is banging every guy that she meets, she should have to face the consequence of being pregnant as a result. Abortion should not be used a cop out.
