Re: Let's make our own Government
In the 1800s virtually all secluded work sites were connected via rail. Had that never changed, you could. Again - a result of a change in the way society works. Obviously changes in society happened over time, but the societal changes as opposed to the passing of time had the greater impact. Then again, I think we're both arguing the same point when it all comes out of the wash: It wouldn't work now.

Re: Let's make our own Government
I thought we were building a new country and not just reforming the US?

Re: Let's make our own Government
Taxes: use slightly progressive system of today but nuke all the loopholes. Constitutional amendment requires that all laws and regulations regarding revenue collection must fit in twenty 8 1/2 in x 11 in pages with 10 point font and 1 inch margins.

How many people live in this nation? How dense is the population? What is the span and natural resources of this nation?

Re: Let's make our own Government
Since it's a new country I'm assuming we're discussing a small state.

Re: Let's make our own Government
I want in.
Government w/ bracket-style tax structure. Lower incomes pay a lower percentage, goal being to accelerate people out of poverty and prevent cyclical future occurences. Yes to an army. Public and private sectors are kept as separate as possible. Public services such as education, police, fire dept, etc, are free, paid for by taxes, with the possible exception of health care, which I can't rule on until I know more about the initial demographic of my country. Private sector eductation institutions do not receive direct payment or vouchers from the government. Families that home school or private school their children can receive a tax exemption relative to the percentage of the governments budget spent on education (If the govt spends 3% of budget on education, you are exempt from 3% of your taxes). Whose country am I in or am I in my own? Other thoughts, expanding Hyperions questions: Are we starting the country from scratch, or rebuilding a current country? What's the initial socio-economic breakdown of our countries? Will our countries interact w/ each other? |

Re: Let's make our own Government
Idea:
It might be fun to categorize the people who want to participate into groups that have similar styles and let them hash out a bullet pointed "constitution." After the groups are assigned we can pick small countries or states or provinces and those countries would have the population, size, natural resources, strategic placement that we would have to consider while drafting our group constitutions.

Yea, I liked this idea when I made the thread but the more people you have in it, the harder it gets to keep it going.

Re: Let's make our own Government
Cuba is the only place in the world meeting sustainable development.
They also have a literacy rate greater than 98% on the island and supposedly the best medicine and doctors come from there as well. This is all while being severely restricted by the U.S embargo.
