Was sitting around thinking this morning thinking about government while bored. Why not make a thread on it?

So if you're starting your own government, name something put into place. Keep in mind I'm ficticious President, and if I don't agree with your idea you go to country B. Chances are it will be Country R-Star vs Country EH Munro.


My first would be a universal tax level. The poor pay the same as the middle class, who pay the same as the rich. The idea that "Oh, the poor can't pay taxes. Take care of them middle class." and "Well there's no reason the rich should have to pay as much as the middle class. That's too much" is asinine.

The same guy who can only get a job at 7-11 should be paying the same portion of his income to taxes that the richest man in the country does.

If its decided that there's a surplus or deficit, everyone's taxes go up or down.

Consumption taxes only. Let the wealthy buy whatever they want, and pay a tax on the purchase. It's surely better than the 19 ton block of swiss cheese known as the US tax code.

Reason for disagreeing: Roads cost money. Schools cost money. A police force costs money. Armies cost money. Etc.

Your country and government will be full of private toll roads. Private schools. Etc.

Your government will have the money to pay for nothing.

My second proposed bill. The majority of government workers make an average salary that is in line with the countries average wage.

This means teachers, police, etc will make what the national average in salary is. There will be no yearly increases. Possible raises at 5 year increments. There will also be no unions. Menial government workers such as city workers will make a smaller salary more in line with their work level.

I'll join your country EH and agree to the consumption tax if we can exempt food, clothing, public transportation, utilities, and rent.

Universal healthcare for all citizens.

No standing army.

Free college education, but only at schools that meet strict admissions and accreditation criteria.

True meritocracy for public employment including an intelligence test and psychological screening.

Of course any private university or hospital is free to set up and operate outside the government run healthcare and education programs.

Todays society but not under the premise that you're doing this as a new American government.

It would be a start from scratch idea. Not take the current baggage and fix it.

Gotcha. I was more curious as to whether we'd be working with humans as they are vs idealized - because under ideal circumstances Communism and Socialism are the butterflies and buttercups of government. :P

Suggestion though for the government at hand - throwing together a minimally biased panel of diverse judges. Give them the order to remove precedent from their vocabulary, and simply work on their own judgment. The goal? Determining which lawsuits are allowed to go before court. The question is... is anybody minimally biased to the point that they'd be fit to choose our minimally biased judges?

The idea would be to let the right lawsuits go through (ie: McDonalds hot coffee lawsuit) and which to say "HA! We're not even going to give a jury of your dumbass peers a chance to screw this one up." (ie: Criminal injured robbing a home)

The US used to have a flourishing private transportation system until GM, some oil companies and I think Ford conspired to destroy it in the post WWI era (seriously, every major city had profitable private electric trolley systems, you can look it up). We're going back to those days. And yeah, no consumption taxes on food, power or services. But given the coin that rich broads waste on clothing we'll need our cut of the grift.

These are already unconstitutional, that's one part of the US constitution that we're keeping. Only we actually mean it here. Public militia only as we ain't invading shit.
