Looks as though the Republicans are trying to run this Bozo off. None of them want to talk about abortion in any context, much less in this context. If they have their way this guy will be off the ticket in the next six days as that means they can replace him with another candidate. I would guess the woman he narrowly defeated in the primary.

And the easy deadline passes with Akin defying his overlords. From what I was reading earlier today, apparently he's never been widely supported in his own party and he sees no reason to bend to the will of his critics. A lot of his funding is being cut as a result. Going to be a tough race for him to win going forward. The whole thing in general is going to toxic for the party.

What'd you expect? Most of these guys have spent their entire adult lives on the dole. Now the party wants him to go out and support himself for a change? If he were to pull out of the race he'd be required to give all that money he's raised for the senate election away, rather than auctioning off high paying no-show jobs with the campaign to the highest bidder.

The Republicans have no incentive to talk about abortion. It is of no help to them with anyone who is not already inclined to vote for them, or at least to vote against the Democrats. They definitely do not want to talk about how guys like this Akin fellow really represent their party on the issue and the stuff that they have been doing in Congress recently. They almost shut down the government so that they could cut funding for abortion in DC. Actually when you think about it the people in DC are being dictated to by men who could not elected to pick up dog crap on the city streets.

Well of course politicians couldn't get elected to any post that required them to do physical labour. Neither would they have any interest in such a post as the dole is so much more lucrative.

Actually I would kind of expect the figure for forcible rape to be lower, not for any balderdash about magical ovaries so much as for the fact that rapists (leaving date rape aside for the moment) tend to use condoms to prevent the leaving behind of excess DNA.

Haven't read the thread or the article (that guy is obviously an asshat), but women who report being raped and seek treatment are typically given the option of taking the Plan B pill. I'd assume that most take it (of course if the religious right had their way that wouldn't be available either).
