Being...out of touch
Quote:
Not one second. What does that say about me? What does it say that I am so out of touch with politics in America these days that I didn't even know the convention started on Monday, and I was shocked that on Wednesday while reading a news article on NBCnews.com that the convention was already underway? I would like to think that its because I have been predicting since early 2011 that Obama has this thing wrapped up. And I am not completely "out of touch" because some polls I have read show that Romney is significantly behind Obama in the Electoral College summary polls. Even though I am sure Romney will get a post-convention "bump" in the polls (this happens every time), I believe any bump he gets will be wiped out after the Dem convention (happens every time). So, whether I am really "out of touch" or not (or plain just don't care), the bottom line is I think thees conventions are a waste of time, and won't watch the Dem convention either. Watching politicians kissing each other's asses in front of "fans" who are 100% behind their party even if their heroes raped blindfolded puppy dogs isn't exactly what I believe is the most productive use of my time (as if spending my life on thie web site is). However, I will say a news article titled "Eastwooding" caught my eye, and I saw the video on it...where Clint Eastwood was talking to the chair that supposedly Obama would be sitting in. The video showed some snippets and I thought his skit was fairly funny. Apparently it was ad-libbed by Eastwood, going well over his 3-minute allotment. http://video.msnbc.msn.com/nightly-n...6392/#48866392

They've been blasting Eastwood non stop for that. I didn't mind it, a little long winded and disjointed, but it wasn't scripted so that's to be expected.

Re: Being...out of touch
Your thoughts or your activity towards political does not matter, they will do what they want regardless, so save the energy and spend more time with those you can impact.

You catch me complaining?
I do vote. However, I understand it's inconsequential to the shaping of this world. It's not apathy, it's enlightenment.

Re: Being...out of touch
I vote in every election; it isn't apathy. It's more of not being as engaged as I used to be.
Anyway, my vote matters not. I live in California, whose electoral votes have been going "blue" for 20 years now.

Re: Being...out of touch
I got out and helped the representative for my area, had a sign on my lawn, went to town hall meetings, etc, and it helped him win, yes.

Re: Being...out of touch
My vote might actually matter this year, which never used to be the case in NC. I really ****ing hate being in a battleground state. Every time I turn my TV on they are telling me the other guy sucks, which I already knew. Neither of them has a damned thing to say about what they are going to accomplish.

Re: Being...out of touch
Do they really need to tell you that what they're going to accomplish is leave the country under a mountain of ruinous debt, continue to trample civil and economic liberty, continue assassinating foreigners and inconvenient Americans and leave the US more universally despised than it is today?

Re: Being...out of touch
I got no problems with the drone strikes. We have been extremely effective at it, last couple of days we have done some major damage to Al Qaeda and the Taliban, and the collateral damage has been pretty insignificant. Truth is I think we should start killing some of our 'allies' in the S Wing of the ISI. Actually I think we should kill all of them since they are clearly working with our enemies.
We have no real choice unless you want to let them alone so that they can go about the business of killing innocent people unhindered.
