Re: Tolerating Islam

I was reading about Obama's Nobel Speech and how he wanted to use it to make a case for just war and reread stuff like "why the christian church isn't pacifist". And all I could think of was "what dirty ****ing hypocrites these 'christians' are". Turn the other cheek is like Jesus' most famous and important teaching and it is explicitly pacifistic. If someone hits you, present them with the other one to hit.

Re: Tolerating Islam

this isnt about Christianity vs Islam - this is about our 'sacred' tenant(freedom of speech) vs theirs (something about sticks and stones or some such - graven images? dont know, having a hard time caring)

No other country (or group) protects free speech like we do, sadly

It is funny, though. Last year, when Gaddafi blamed the popular revolt against him on al Qaeda and similar islamic radical groups, he was ridiculed in the international media. Later on, when he was overthrown, some documents discovered at an abandoned Libyan government office showed that the Libyan rebels’ military commander Belhaj was actually abducted in 2004 by the CIA, which suspected him of links to al Qaeda. And now we hear that the latest deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi is said to be directly tied to al Qaeda or al Qaeda-affiliated parties inside Libya...

There's a difference between a popular uprising that includes people linked to terrorist organizations(let's be honest, there's going to be at least a few of their sympathizers wherever you go in the Mid East) and one lead by them. Lybia's probably the most pro-American country that resulted from the Arab Spring.

They are. And "freedom fighters" take help from wherever then can get it. I just watched the Living Daylights and this was a huge plot point. It was also funny because the friendly Mujahedeen guy is the same actor who played the main terrorist in True Lies.
