Re: Debate Night- Oct. 16
You should have learned something after elementary school. The greatest? Are you serious? We still use the electoral college. We have a 2 party system. In the Senate 2 people represent Wyoming and also 2 people represent California.

Allow me to introduce you to the House of Representatives. Agree on the other two though.

Re: Debate Night- Oct. 16
What do you guys think of a format in which the President or executive writes the legislation and the Congress executes it?

Re: Debate Night- Oct. 16
There are several systems that are a lot like ours which do not use the electoral college and have several active and important parties. Most of South America, specifically Brazil, for example. Our constitution was written in 1787, the oldest surviving written constitution in the world, why in hell would it be the best? And this is going to be blasphemy in the USA, but France has a better system.

Re: Debate Night- Oct. 16
I am not sure what this means.
Philly barely squeaked by with an overtime win in the first game, then the Lakers barely beat Philly in game 2, and the rest of the games in Philly were blow-outs. Not sure how you are relating debates to those Finals. Then again, I am purposely tuning out on the debates. It's all shit.

Re: Debate Night- Oct. 16
The electoral college is a ****ing joke. It's all a game...talking about "swing" states and such.
Popular vote should be the only way to elect a president. Then maybe we might see a campaigner or two in California, for Christ's sake.

Re: Debate Night- Oct. 16
It's not a joke as the purpose of the senate was to represent the interest of the individual state governments. It's why, powerwise, the Senate's the junior partner in the legislative branch (as well as the reason that Senators were appointed by state legislatures). The enumerated powers are vested mostly in the House which is tasked with representing the interests of the voters.

Re: Debate Night- Oct. 16
yeah, its' a joke as long as the senate can kill or otherwise exercise power over legislation and the historic reasons for the the way the senate is set up are not sufficient that it (or for that matter the electoral college) should continue to function the way it does
and dont get me started on simple vs super-majority issues either |
