I live in New York, so my vote only matters in local elections... It's depressing to see how many of our local politicians' websites still have a huge amount of reelection shit up and next to no useful information post-Sandy...

I think you only read the title, clearly the OP was all about George Carlin's genius.

In regard to voting, this year it means something. I am with Krstic in that my vote for president means nothing as California is a blue state, but we do have some important propositions to vote on.

And we all know the value of a single vote...unless, of course, you have forgotten Florida in 2000.

I have to say, as a person who represents people (public employees) whose fortunes are ultimately dictated by local elections - voting has a real meaning on the local level. I encourage anyone who reads this to read up on their local elections and pay attention to what is going on around them. It is easy to focus on the presidential election and become disillusioned by the magnitude of it all and the lack of real choice, but ultimately those elections for mayor/state senator/referendums/congress etc.. are likely to have far greater impact on your day to day life. Mocking the system and claiming your vote doesn't count is just an easy out... the path of least resistance.
