UPDATE: Bankruptcy Judge Approves Hostess Liquidation

Hostess Brands to Wind Down Company After BCTGM Union Strike Cripples Operations

Say goodbye to all those iconic snacks, twinkies, cupcakes, ding-dongs, etc.

The bakery union basically sacrificed Hostess' over 18,000 workers to make a point, I guess.

Pathetic.

Then again, the company was in bankruptcy...it may have failed down the line anyway, but we will never know that for sure now.

Re: Hostess Liquidating Its Business

I wouldn't blame the union without knowing the full story. And I couldn't possibly care less about Hostess, so I won't learn the full story. Last time I had a hostess snack was probably 20 years ago. I don't know a single adult who eats them even semi-regularly.

Actually, the iconic brands will probably be bought by other bakery companies, but Hostess won't be making them.

You never blame unions, so this isn't a surprise.

It is the company's news release that is blaming the union, not exactly an objective source.

Re: Hostess Liquidating Its Business

Because people have the right to collectively bargain to even the playing field. Maybe this is a case of the union doing wrong, but that seems odd considering the #1 thing they would want is to keep the jobs.

E: Saw this somewhere else

Quote:
The unions gave over 100 million in concessions during the first bankruptcy.

Just before going into the 2nd the management team all gave themselves about 8 million dollars worth of raises.

Where else exactly did you see that? The union website?

Its America, there's plenty of companies to pick up the slack.

Maybe McDonalds will buy the rights to twinkies and make their buns with twinkie filling on their next burger.

I ate a Hostess Apple Pie in the late '70s once and I got the shakes, there was so much sugar in it. Never again.

So instead of making 8% less than what they were making, they now make 100% less.

Sounds logical.

I think the BCGTM reached more than their "bandwith" limit...as far as limits go, anyway.

It does when the guys who got to keep their jobs now get to point at the evil business owners, and act like they're sad about their peers who lost their jobs.

Classic ****ing unions.

Re: Hostess Liquidating Its Business

Was on another message board. But now that you're making me verify

http://www.cnbc.com/id/49853653

Quote:
When Hostess Brands announced that it would close up its operations, the forces most responsible for that decisions were two hedge funds that control hundreds of millions of the debt of Hostess have finally decided that they won’t squeeze any more filling into the Twinkie.
Quote:
In the deal that allowed Hostess to come out of bankruptcy, the unions agreed to concessions that would save the company around $110 million a year in labor costs.
Quote:
The brands Hostess owns retain value. Someone will likely produce Twinkies again. The plants and workers are also valuable and will likely find bidders.
So Hostess and a couple Bain Capitals get ****ed. Everyone else is fine. OBAMA!!!!!
