Re: After Israel, Hamas reach Gaza cease-fire, both sides claim victory

I won't out of respect. But I think you are brainwashed from an early age in regards to anything Israel related.

I have no horse in the race. There's no reason for me to side with Israel or Palestine. There's no reason for me to dislike Jews. But I went from an amiable relationship on here with KAS to all the sudden being labeled antisemitic because I didn't agree with ever pro Israel statement he made. So with that being the case, that's all I'll say on the matter.

Terrorist government fires rockets into civilian populations and are considered innocent people. This is pathetic, these arguments for a free Palestine are pathetic because if they bordered any other country, genocide would have happened by now. Russia? China? Iran? USA? They all would have slaughtered all insurgents and the neighbors who let them be insurgents.

Are the Israelis being dicks right now with the whole settlement thing? Yes, and if I were in the UN, I would just state that if Israel wants to improve the infrastructure of Palestine by developing real estate, then they are more than welcome to do so with approval. However, firing white phosphorus rockets into towns are not political statements, those are acts of war.
The last round of violence started with the IDF shooting of a mentally retarded Palestinian who wandered too close to the prison's fence. And when the Palestinians failed to respond with rocket fire, was followed by a second shooting. The reaction that Israel was looking for was rocket fire so that they had an excuse to reduce Gaza to rubble...again.

Since 2000 80% of these border conflicts started with the IDF. Why does the IDF keep up the shootings/killings if they want the Palestinians to stop firing rockets at them? The simple answer is that they don't give a shit because the rockets don't do anything. The very few Israelis killed are a small price to pay for the visceral hatred they they've inculcated in their population for the Palestinians and the PR they get in the US as "victims". Allowing them to continue to burn olive groves to the ground and keep destroying Palestinian villages to replace them with settlements.

They get away with it because the biggest bastard on the face of the planet is standing right behind them, and like a bully they're using that as an excuse to kick around the one player in the game that has no power to fight back. This won't end until the US renounces its "Israel right or wrong!" foreign policy. Because until that day Israel's going to play the part of the neighbourhood bully without fear as there are no repercussions for it.

Am I sensitive to anything Israel? yes, I know that I do side more on the side of Israel than Palestine in all respects. However, Israel is not chanting "Death to the Palestinians" Their political ethos and social norms are far enough from mine for me to say, "**** em".

Didn't realize that this whole thing started in November. As for the man who was shot for pulling what ended up being a toy gun, well, it sucks that he was shot and that he was disabled so that he really didn't realize what he was doing. Yet, you have to be sympathetic to the fact that these officers are existing in an extremely heightened state of alertness where they are reacting with deadly force. That stuff happens here a lot too, you don't see rockets being launched at police buildings for that. The police responded to a call that a man was waving a gun at traffic and when he made a move after they told him to get down on the ground, they responded by reacting.

As for the neighborhood bully aspect. I didn't realize that neighborhood bullies had their lunch taken from them, punch in the face by everyone on the bus and had to keep getting mom (USA) to help them because the other kids keep picking on him. By your definition, I sure hope your kids were not bullies.

Israel(at least those on the right, who are currently in power) doesn't want peace, it wants to "win". They need a foil to play the bad guy so they can keep grabbing land in the West Bank. They need Hamas.

There's a huge difference between giving land for peace and blockading people into a region and not allowing anything to enter or leave. If Obama put up fences around Waco County, stationed the National Guard on the border, and enforced a blockade both ways, you can bet your ass Texans would start smuggling goods and people as well as taking shots at the government troops.

Considering that nothing close to this happens with the Mexican drug cartels, I'm going to just say you're just wrong, at least regarding the USA.

Israel doesn't listen to the UN, which has been a huge part of the problem. They have no intention of "developing" anything, they're just taking, and everyone knows it.

Again, Hamas and the Palestinian Authority aren't the same thing, and they aren't even in the same place. Israel's occupying another country on the pretense of its own security, while at the same time acting as an antagonist and portraying itself as a victim. It's a back and forth between two parties with neither side right and neither side totally wrong, but Israel's been winning pretty handily for decades now.

You know, given that Israel is the one shelling Gaza with white phosphorous artillery shells I assumed he was trying to be reasonable and see both sides of the matter. It's only just dawned on me that he's referring to the rockets that explode in the middle of nowhere when they blow up at all.

Oh I know they did, that was a pretty terrible act and Israel awknowldged that the approval of the use of that artillery was not appropriate as a smoke screen. Ironic that they smoke screened with using a smoke screen. The officers who did authorize it should face whatever repercussions. However, the use of the white phosphorus was not primarily used with the intent of harming civilians (at least this is what I hope is true).

The crazy right in Israel is hell bent on war just like the crazy right is here. Extremists get their way when extreme action is being taken against you. Just look at 9/11 and what that did here.

As for the blockade, they allow anything that is what it is to be permitted through. They allow medical supplies, concrete, food, etc through. However, there are many crates that say "schoolbooks for kids" that turn out to be rockets. Maybe they should change their stance of "March the Jews to the Sea" and go with "Help Gazans Thrive". Their own leadership doesn't want the Gazans to be successful.

Re: After Israel, Hamas reach Gaza cease-fire, both sides claim victory

Talking about Hamas and using them as an excuse not to deal with Abu Mazen only reinforces the obvious truth of this situation. The Israelis have no interest in making a deal. Abu Mazen has done everything right so far as I can tell. There are extremely few hostile acts against Israel based in the West Bank, even though they are completely merited by the acts of the Occupation forces and the settlers who in fact are pretty much a lot of thuggish brutes hiding behind the IDF and then rushing out to vandalize and destroy the property and the lives of innocent Palestinians.

Abu Mazen is not firing rockets at the Israelis, he's waiting for them to stop stealing land from the Palestinians so that he can try to make an honorable deal. He looks like a chump at this point, because all the Israelis have done is lie and steal the entire time he's been appeasing them and doing the job of the Occupation forces in large part. What more is Abu Mazen supposed to do? Do you expect him to just roll over and play dead while the Israelis finish stealing all hope of a future for his people?

It's no longer split. The two parts reunited last year. Hamas and the PA are united.
