From Senior Staff Engineer to Manager of Engineer

My friend was a Senior Staff Engineer in Silicon Valley California before April 2012. In May 2012, he got a job in Los Angeles, California. The job title is Manager of Engineer.

Now he was terminated due to skills not being matched.

Can he get any unemployment insurance from State of California or Federal Government?

He has three young kids and his wife is not working.

Re: From Senior Staff Engineer to Manager of Engineer

I don't know is the best answer.

The State has the unemployment compensation benefits. For 26 weeks.

However, the federal government somehow extended that to 99 weeks. So I don't know the procedure, he should probably Google it to get more information.

I have also heard rumblings (thanks to the fiscal cliff) of the federal government rescinding the 99 week provision and going back to 26 week benefits from the state.
