Re: Connecticut massacre thrusts Michigan gun bills — and tea party — into spotlight
Why isn't there a cop at every school? It's not as though school hours are high crime times.

You'd need multiple officers in every school for any sort of effectiveness. Once it's just part of the day-to-day that there's a police officer in every school they're the first place a shooter's going to go(if there's just one of them), and it would be incredibly easy to get the drop on a single officer with all the comings and goings during a school day.

Even if there was, its highly doubtful that would have made a difference in Newtown. I would imagine someone hell-bent on conducting such a carnage would be able to escape a cop's attention in order to do what he/she wanted to do.

It would be ****ing awesome to have that kind of manpower continuously, but one would have to fear a police state would emerge. However, this is all speculation, of course, because the tax money needed to engage such an enforcement process permanently would be extremely prohibitive. If people wanted it bad enough, it could be done. But its a catch-22 also: the increased security decreases total crime, then politicians get involved and say we don't need the increased security, and relax standards...then another event happens again to start the vicious cycle all over again. |

Re: Connecticut massacre thrusts Michigan gun bills — and tea party — into spotlight
I'd guess you're talking about something that would cost at least 35 billion dollars Nationally. I read that someone estimated that it would be 10 billion in California. Googling it says that the median salary for a police officer is 50K. I'm guessing you'd probably stick the rookies out to watch the kindergartens, but still there must be a couple hundred schools in area I live in. This here says there were slightly less than 100 thousand schools in the USA a few years ago, so that is going to come out to 40 billion in salary and salary isn't going to be the only expense. You'll have overhead and since it's a bureaucracy there's going to be a lot.

so um with cuts in education spending endemic across the country who is going to pay for this barney fife with a gun? (which I suppose Barney Fife did pack so is a redundant formulation)

Re: Connecticut massacre thrusts Michigan gun bills — and tea party — into spotlight
I think you misquoted me.
I don't know if you experienced it or not, but that was the safest period of time Los Angeles citizenry ever experienced. Now, as I surmised, it wasn't in effect long enough to see what a prolonged time period such procedures in place would engender. My speculation that it would spawn a police state is a natural conclusion, however. |

You can put cops everywhere like Israel, or you can start restricting gun sales. One of those options is cheaper.

NRA chief: If putting armed police in schools is crazy, 'then call me crazy'
I can't stomach this ****ing psychopath's complete interview. Actually, I am shocked this ****ing moron still heads the NRA. Surely there must be some right-thinking NRA members who can unseat this guy and then advance a meaningful dialogue into gun violence? I mean, he quoted that the NRA has 4 million members. Out of 4 million members I would think they can one at least. |
