Well I think the fundamental issue here is (the government) telling humans that they can't use something created by other humans (like a gun or assault rifle etc.) is implying a lot of inferiority, i mean it is a total philosophical injustice. however, everyone should consider things equal parts philosophy and practicality so obviously without access to a gun 26 innocent lives in Newtown and countless ones across the world in other cases would be saved, and its really hard to make a definite general rule about this because of the differences in the people in the world and their respective intentions. basically i'm saying this issue sucks and in a simpler world guns wouldn't exist. I don't really know... if that helps at all

Seems this gets glossed over when people talk about this debate. I am not sure how people can have so much trust in a government that has a foreign policy of bullying people that can't defend themselves.

I love how people post photo's of citizens with WWII era tanks. A normal marine could annihilate one of those tanks on his own, let alone if they sent in a current gen tank to deal with it.


The idea you guys can rise up against your government is laughable. The ****ing Canadian Army would role you guys up and smoke you, and we're a joke compared to the American Military.

There are more than 60 million people with guns in the USA, I don't even think your mounties have guns. What are you going to do? "please stop shooting eh?" And "I'm soory but I think I may have been hit by one of your bullets."

That number of armed citizens is indomitable. However, anyone who owns a gun for "protection" is an idiot. It's a sport "toy" for oversized boys.

That number of armed guerrillas is probably impossible to subdue, but if they organized to actually accomplish something they would be decimated in seconds.

You think all that stuff is remote controlled? Or so you think the America is just the lone nation in the world? This country could not afford to turn its military full blasts against armed citizens. Do you think these rebel groups in other countries are being supplied from the arms the citizens had in their closets.

Unarmed citizens are easily controlled though.

Cops in Canada carry guns. They have shot guns in their squad cars and what have you like American cops as well.

Why couldn't they afford to? All the sudden their low tech enemies in Afghanistan or Iraq would decide to hop in their planes and bring the fight to them?

And Hyperion is right, its usually American and Russian weapons being used against America by rebel groups. And has been shown, non even come close to standing up toe to toe against the American military.

When the US shows up, its a blood bath where the average American death is by sneaky shit. When its a fire fight America mops up.


Again, if you think you guys can rise up against your government just because you have guns, you're out of your mind.

That being said, it would never get to that point. If the majority was against the current government to the point of open conflict, the president would obviously be impeached.

Haha, if you're going to use police officers against private gun owners, I would give the nod to the private citizens. They practice shoot more than police officers.

There are a lot of military trained Americans. Also, think about how many people are trained in military tactics through MOW and COD.

As for the provision, no the citizens would never uprise due to the fact that they have alternatives to violence (i.e. the democratic system) but that option needs to be there so that the government cannot legislate rights away.

With all that said, gun ownership in the US is merely a recreational activity or for really paranoid people. Either way it's a part of freedom and the people who commit murder should not be the reason why freedom is eliminated. The concept of owning a gun is the same as owning a car. You should be required to register it with the government (lest it gets stolen and used in a crime or just so it can be returned to you) and you should be required to pass a licensing test for ownership of one.

And just like owning a car, there are restrictions. You can't go out and drive a F1 car on the road. Nor should you be able to own a gun that's able to take down a room of people in a matter of seconds. Handguns and regular use hunting rifles, sure.
