I didn't hand out infractions in this thread, and only did some light editing, but everyone needs to knock off the personal attacks.

I vote to not raise the debt limit one more cent. Leave social security and medicare alone for those already in and those over a certain age who will be in in the near future. Reset each programs age eligibility and payouts for the nest generations on a increasing sliding scale and modify payouts. Cut all government spending in ALL departments across the board by 5 percent each year for the nest 5 years. Cut every government employee salary over 100k by 10 percent immediately with 2 percent raises each year and not a penny more. Eliminate the EPA and DOE and let states control their own departments if the deem it necessary. Get government out of private businesses and let them bloom and grow on their own merits. Eliminate all subsidies to anyone and everyone. Let America flourish like it has in the past via the free enterprise system.

I may have missed it in this thread, but I can only assume that its in there multiple times and on every non-Fox media outlet (so I'm assuming you haven't seen it on TV). You do know that the debt ceiling is about paying off past debts and not future spending? Cutting spending doesn't change the need to raise the debt ceiling.

You probably won't hear that over the loop of Limbaugh and Hannity in your head, but reality is a preferable spot to live in.

That is just more smoke and mirrors. You have a 10K limit on your credit card, but spend 12K and then you go ask the credit card company to raise your limit. Then you spend more and ask them to raise your limit again. then you spend more and ask them to raise your limit again. Somebody has to so no more. Raising the limit over and over and over does not fix the instantly fixable problem. Just stop spending what you don't have.

Is it the Department of Energy you want to get rid of or Education? I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you meant Education. Are you saying that the President should get a 10% pay cut but in 4 years have a pay raise above what he's earning now when the new president takes office?

I say we legislate that military (and ancillary military) spending cannot account for more than 40% of government expenditures unless a declaration of war is made.

As for removing oversight departments, that is stupid. I don't need to go into why it's stupid to take regulations away when people are willing to do whatever it takes to make a buck.

I beg to differ, the reason for raising the limit of the national debt is to allow new deficit spending. The existing national debt is a reflection of past deficits, but if the government were to start running in the black there'd be no reason to raise the national debt ceiling. That's the reason we're having a brawl over it. And if the ceiling isn't raised we get sequestration, that is automatic spending reductions to keep the budget in balance so as not to raise the debt.

But, there's no need to fear, corporate America is on the case and they won't let no stinkin' congresscritters or any "stupid teapartiers" make them get off welfare and support themselves.

I don't believe for a moment what you posted regarding my statement. You may want to reread what I posted several times. That may help.

I think that is what you are saying. Let me keep what I have and you get what's left of it when I die. Why is it an unbreakable oath when you get the benefits but it's a change in benefit for me? Is it because I shouldn't be ENTITLED to get what I pay for? How about they do a one time repayment of all individual's money paid into Medicare/Medicaid with a 5% interest rate minus the benefits received already and that's that? If the individual was an employee it would be half whereas the individual would receive the full amount of the tax rate if they worked for themselves. No one would receive more than $250k and I guarantee that most elderly over 70 have used up all of what they've paid in. Hell, the average income person has paid in less than 60k over the past 30 years.
