N. Korea to give up nuclear arms
At long last, N. Korea has caved in to the pressure and will surrender its nuclear arms. What a tremendous victory for the U.S., China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, and for world peace.
Quote:
|
The draft accord commits North Korea to scrap all of its existing nuclear weapons and nuclear production facilities, to rejoin the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, and to readmit international nuclear inspectors.

This is also a great victory for President Bush, who stuck to his guns and forced the N. Koreans to negotiate with all the parties involved. It also shows that there is more than one way to deal with a country that has nuclear arms, and that fighting a war with Iraq did not distract us from finding a different kind of solution with N. Korea.

Re: N. Korea to give up nuclear arms
Yes great victory but we've heard this before from the North Koreans...In this case I do applaud Bush's efforts on keeping the pressure on them though. His use of an coalition with China, Japan, Russia and South Korea was much more effective and sensible then his actions in Iraq.

Then again... North Korea isn't developing & stockpiling biological weapons of mass destruction.

Re: N. Korea to give up nuclear arms
Let's hope this sticks.
That'd be two of the three "axis of evil" countries neutralized.
And while Iran remains a massive threat, Europe is engaged AND we've excellent access to strike Iran (with an ally in Pakistan and of course massive presences in Iraq and Afghanistan). I'm not sure what our relationship is with Turkmenistan, but we've got Iran pretty much surrounded, which is a much different situation than we had a few years ago when only Israel could be counted on as a base of operations in the region.
Hopefully Iran, like Libya and now reportedly North Korea, will peacably abandon the pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Really hate to say I called this one but the North Koreans are once again reneging on their promises to dismantle and discontinue their nuclear weapons programs. Or as the very least stalling in doing so. They now demand a new light water reactor from the U.S. before agreeing to dismantle their other reactors.
Quote:
|
SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea said Tuesday it would not dismantle its nuclear weapons program until the United States first provides an atomic energy reactor, casting doubt on its commitment to a breakthrough agreement reached at international arms talks.
|
Still definetly a step in the right direction but it now seems a bit hasty to say this is a done deal. Hopefully we can keep the pressure on and force a comitment from North Korea. China believes North Korea will eventually understand the agreement and will dismantle their current reactors so their is reason to be hopeful.

Some of us have the oppinion that he is not a very good president. We think the reasons are obvious, other like you perhaps do not think this. Just different matters of oppinion.
