Wow, the backlash in this thread is shocking to me. Political correctiveness has gotten people out of control here. I don't know Talkhard's past, but his post is actually quite true. Sure, the last thing the world needs is any illegitimate child...of course...but that's not the point Talkhard is making. The black community has been plagued by this problem, more so than any other race in this nation. That issue can indeed be discussed in the Political forum, but I'm surprised that he's getting personal attacks from it. I think we all do indeed to "lighten up" just a bit and not take a two sentence post so seriously as to raise some big implications and arguments out of it. Man, the things people come up with when they're waiting so long for basketball to start...

Sorry, but that's rediculous. I guess I shouldn't have my old Amare Stoudemire dunking avatar because someone might interpret that to say black people are better than white people at basketball and therefore get offended. Racism! Well, I never said black "illegitimacy" was a product of racism/segregation/slavery. I just asked some questions, and attempted to get talkhard to complicate his statement some. By just noting the stats and not providing reasons, he left a lot up to assumption.

That said, I'd like to see proof of the black "legitimacy" rate being 90% in the fifties - where is the study that proves this? Personally, even without knowing any stats, I highly doubt the rate was that high, but even if it was, that in and of itself doesn't rule out racism playing a role in current black "legitimacy". The way I see it, a lot of it has to do with sexism, that is compounded by racism, and considering black live disproportionately in the ghetto, their families are subject to more pressure.

When did I say I didn't like the term "black illegitimacy"? See, this is why I hate it when over-zealous people who are oversensitive to my claims of racism trip themselves up - I have a problem with the term "illegitimacy" not the phrase "black illegitimacy". So your whole rant doesn't apply. Why don't I like the term "illegitimacy"? Because a birth is legitimate, whether it comes from a legally recognized marriage or not. I think it's disgusting that people would put a term like illegitimate on a birth because of the mere fact it didn't occur in a marriage.

Well, I'd agree with you, accept people are always telling me I take things a bit too harshly when I bring up racism (which wasn't even the main focus of my original post). Again, minimalizing fears about racism is a strategy that is constantly used to avoid dealing with racism. Does that necessarily mean that I never go overboard? Nah, I wouldn't say that, but when everyone is trying to minimalize your fears about racism, no matter how you articulate them, it's hard to draw the line. Personally, I thought I was mild and fair in my response. I think you have more of a problem with the content - rather than the manner - of my response.

As for talkhard, he articulated himself perfectly, I thought. But being black, there are certain key words, certain ways of putting things, that just come off as hateful, and talkhard did just that in his original post. Really, he acts like that all the time when he's talking about black people. He's just hateful towards blacks, and his post about Telfair was no different. Maybe you aren't feeling that, but I am. I can't help it; being black, you just know when someone is on some hateful bull****.

And TalkHard I am extremely "light" so telling me to "lighten up" is pretty ridiculous. If you'll go back and read your posts and then read mine you are extremely harsh and preachy in most of your while I was very suggestive and light and not at all telling you what to think or believe, seriously, read mine again because I don't see how any of it warrants telling me to lighten up. I am female and I am not personally offended most of the time by things like your avatar but some people are....and that's my point.
