The Real Global Virus

The plague of Islamism keeps on spreading.

despite the various professed grievances (e.g., India should get out of Kashmir; Russia should get out of Chechnya; England should get out of Iraq; Christians should get out of Indonesia; or Westerners should get out of Bali), the perpetrators were all self-proclaimed Islamic radicals. Westerners who embrace moral equivalence still like to talk of abortion bombings and Timothy McVeigh, but those are isolated and distant memories. No, the old generalization since 9/11 remains valid: The majority of Muslims are not global terrorists, but almost all such terrorists, and the majority of their sympathizers, are Muslims.

A noted right wing nut touting right wing propaganda. I love how people post this op-ed stuff like it's supposed to be eye-opening. This guy his lips glued to Bush's *** anyway. Would you expect a different type of opinion from the guy?

At any rate, the most dangerous line of thinking is making broad generalizations about an entire group of people because the most reported on are extreme. There are millions of freedom and peace-loving Muslims in the world, just as there are Christians and Buddhists and Hindus and Jews, etc.

We should be above the name-calling and stereotypes. And if we aren't, we have some serious work to do before we can call ourselves a nation that accepts all people from all walks of life and backgrounds.

What is this guy hoping to accomplish by touting such blatant hate?

Re: The Real Global Virus

Any group of people can go sour, and when you've been ****ed as much as the Middle East has in the past 100 years, I can see what happened. It has nothing to do with the religion. I know it's old and tired but it's true: one mans terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. Besides, whatabout terrorism in Ireland and in Cuba (by American citizens, too). Terrorism in the Middle East stemmed from a radical way of thinking (Wahabi-ism) that has been spreading when impresionable minds are subjected to it (Saudi Arabia is a wonderful example). We don't help the situation by invading random countires and supporting Isreal in every last thing they do (including launching rockets at crippled religious leaders).

And, to go off topic a little (as if i'm not already), we really don't care what people do as long as it's not to us. While the Taliban were cutting peoples hands off for singing in public and playing soccer in Afghanistan, we were doing business with them. We gave "terrorists" money. More than once, but we all know that old story.

And YES, Islam is known as the religion of peace. Most major world religions have had atrocities committed in their names. Just becuase Islam is the most recent one, doesn't mean it's scourge to the planet.

Marc Steyn sums up my thoughts about the riots in France in this editorial

Quote:
According to its Office du Tourisme, the big event in Evreux this past weekend was supposed to be the annual fête de la pomme, du cidre et du fromage at the Place de la Mairie. Instead, in this charmingly smouldering cathedral town in Normandy, a shopping mall, a post office, two schools, upwards of 50 vehicles and, oh yes, the police station were destroyed by - what's the word? - "youths".
