Re: Ot:TO will no longer be an eagle in 05' season
The Bucs went into the tank after putting the smack down on Keyshawn, and Johnson is doing just fine in Dallas.
TO is twice the player that Keyshawn is, and he'll land on his feet somewhere. The question is how far Philly will fall without TO.
Owens is a drama queen, for sure. But he's a HECK of a football player and if the Eagles would have paid him they wouldn't have had to deal with the "bad TO" and they would be much better poised to make the playoffs.
TO would look good lining up for the Seahawks...

That's just the point, though - they SHOULDN'T have to pay TO anymore than he was already making. He was one of the top 3 receivers in the NFL and was paid accordingly - no, he wasn't the highest-paid WR, but he was compensated VERY well.

I was talking about St. Louis.
Let him take a stab at baseball.

Re: Ot:TO will no longer be an eagle in 05' season
T.O. needs to get this clear!!!!! This is football not hoops, and all it takes is for someone to miss their block or a QB to hang him out there and he's in a wheelchair for life. That's fact!
These are 250 pound plus men overloaded with muscle and enraged attitude every Sunday; pissing off an entire team time after time is a target around his head.
Think some DB, LB or Safety might not hit TO twice as hard on teams like SF and the Eagles now? Hell I don't know many teams now that wouldn't head hunt him just to say they shut him up.
T.O. is making huge mistakes!

Re: Ot:TO will no longer be an eagle in 05' season
Dan Patrick's take on TO is that pretty much NO NFL team is interested in signing the guy to a long-term contract due to the inevitable meltdown factor and the effect it would have on team chemistry. BUT, any number of "bubble" teams might sign him to a 1 year deal just to help them break through to that next level. In some cases, this means just putting butts in seats. In others, this means getting to the playoffs. And in still others, this means getting to the next round of the playoffs (beyond last year). And I think he's right about that. TO is a player who can REALLY help a struggling team in the short term.
But whether or not TO knows it, he's shafting himself out of BIG $$$ down the road with his off-field antics. I actually really like what he does on the field (even the celebrations he comes up with are cool). But now no one is going to want to sign the guy to a long-term contract, and he only has himself (and the voices he listens to) to blame. Sad, really.

how about LA new team or Mexico city's team?
18 million pesos! I still think he should go to the CFL!

Who's to say they shouldn't "have" to pay him more? I'd like to hear your reasoning.
NFL teams cut players all the time, and they don't have to pay them in spite of having a contract with them.
Owens came to Philly with the understanding that they were going to take care of him financially. He came back from a devestating leg injury--in spite of numerous teammates saying they didn't need him to win--and expected the Eagles to show him the same committment.
He didn't handle it as I would have, that's for sure. But the Eagles blew it with him big-time, and their season's going down in flames because of it.

There in the position they are right now because of him and his distractions that he has brought to the team...Their season is just getting going now, in two weeks they can clear themselves of the mess he brought to the team and become leaders of the division.....

I totally disagree that the Eagles are well positioned to do anything. They have no receivers. They can't run the ball. They're going to struggle the rest of the year without their best player.
As for the season "just getting going": it's half over. They're two games behind the Giants, and the odds of them being in first place in their division after two more weeks are long, indeed, since Dallas AND Washington (each of whom have already beaten the Eagles) AND NY would all have to go 0-2 and the Eagles would have to go 2-0.

Re: Ot:TO will no longer be an eagle in 05' season
Come on, Philadelphia did Owens a FAVOR by taking him when they did. If the Eagles, a yearly NFC contender, didn't sign Owens he would have been playing for the Ravens and AnthonyKyleBollerWright.
And mind you, Owens didn't add that much to the Eagles, the Eagles made it through the playoffs sans-Owens. Sure he took pressure off McNabb and bailed out a chronically underperfoming WR troupe, but what he added does match what he took away.
Also, I think if we want to argue that players' contract should be adjusted to exceeding levels of performance, why can't teams adjust a contract when a player UNDER preforms?
