Saddam Hussein did not mock the Arab religion.
So it was okay for Saddam to kill thousands of muslims, as long as he didn't insult their religion? Makes sense to me.

Who's they? Careful with your generalizations there. Don't act as if you can understand where they are coming from. "God" is the only thing they have when considering the country is being royally screwed economically by the guys THIS country helped put in power. Iran was a perfectly good country and very western-world when the Shah was running it. Women didn't have to wear scarfs over their heads, religion wasn't mandatory and the country's economics was doing quite well. That is until America and Britain helped push the Shah out because they deemed him as a threat to be a super power. After that, Khomeini's regime came in and totally screwed the country. The president now, is from that same regime. A perfectly well off country went down the toilet because American and Britain wanted to make a few extra dollars. Sounds about right to me!

Quote:
Exactly. And yet I never saw any mass demonstrations or protests in other Arab countries about what Saddam was doing to their fellow muslims. It took a stupid cartoon to get them really mad.
The demonstrations were rare because they had gestapo-like situations in those countries. Other times, American media just didn't cover them. It's funny how when the war started and they finally got Saddam, all that was on TV were the stories of families crying about how Saddam killed their family members. Do you think that ALL of a sudden folks over there had a problem with Saddam killing their families or just NOW the media started paying attention on that subject more? Spin artists own Fox News at the moment. Nobody payed any attention when these families were getting murdered but when our president stages a false war on false pretences they have a dozen of these stories rolling, quite coincidental.

To be fair to the cartoonist, Sharone has killed a lot of babies and is responsible for making so many families in Palestine homeless. His authority has made the destruction of Palestinian homes all the while they are actually sleeping in their homes. Women and children end up getting crushed by the home itself.

Re: Muslim hypocrisy on display

Talkhard, it's an entirely different culture that you apparantly don't understand.

By the way, "Muslim" refers to 1.5 billion people, choose your words more carefully next time.

Re: Muslim hypocrisy on display

I agree with the thread title but let's not just pick on Muslims here.

To be fair, by their very nature, ALL organized religions depend almost entirely on "incomplete" people for their membership. Born-again drug addicts, reformed wife-abusers, child molesters, phonies too afraid of criticism to NOT join, people with LOW self-esteem or lacking in social skills, unable to form meaningful relationships with other people, outright idiots too meek to make their own decisions on daily matters without a guidebook or a mythical Daddy-in-the-sky to tell them what to do and more importantly what NOT to do.

Well-adjusted and educated people who can separate fact from fiction, metaphor from mandate, likely from unlikely, and feasible from ridiculous, have a much more realistic approach to spirituality and therefore seldom go off the deep end over trivial matters such as this.

The "Golden Rule" trumps all religions.

If embraced by all the world it would make these silly fairy-tale clubs obsolete.

PS - Just my opinion and I defend your absolute right to have your own.

I hope I haven't offended anyone.

Damn, couldn't of said it better myself.

Today there was a street preacher at PSU, and I stood there wondering where I fit in with his conversion plans. Everything he talked about is how I'm drowning in sin and I'm lost and need to leave my baggage by the cross and accept Jesus. And I thought: man, none of this stuff applies to me AT ALL. And yes, the people who need something to latch onto and live for find it in religion then they lose it when anything goes against their comfort mechanism. (Just my opinion, of course.)

And it really is like that with all religions. No matter what religion, it's still based on some outdated text designed to lure people away from a life of sin back when life truley was short (30 years was old.)

IMHO, IMHO, IMHO.
