Re: Pentagon investigator says Iraq has WMD
Why does the US feel so threatened by Iraq (and Iran) to the point of taking military action, but not with N. Korea, who is much more advanced with WMD. Let's see . . . what does Iraq and Iran have that N. Korea doesn't . . . hmmmm . . .

Well, I can think of a few things . . .
Millions of stark raving mad Muslims
A religion based on the idea of destroying western civilization
An intense hatred of our ally Israel
A worship of violence and suicide bombers
A disregard for the rights of women
A culture still buried in the dark ages

So by now, I can just assume that "Muslim" and "stark raving mad" are just synonyms with you, right?

I'll give you that one. Bonus points if you can tell me the real reason they hate Israel. (hint: it has something to do with Palestine.)

I can appreciate your nervousness on this topic, however. All liberals live in constant fear that WMD will be discovered and the war will be justified after all. It shakes them to their core that they might actually have to admit that Bush was right and America did a good thing.

*IF* any real weapons are "FOUND" they have only been shipped in by good ol' Bushy and Co. to save face.

I would even take your argument a step further and say that one of the aims (unstated) of the Iraq war was to get a foothold next door to Iran for the reasons you point out. Our government has known that Iran is a growing threat for a long time now, and we saw the value of having a military presence (or at least an ally) right next door to them.
|
... yes. and you think this is ok? inventing reasons (wmd) to invade sovereign countries to gain stronger presence in the middle-east?
wonder why the usa is disliked all over the world and seen as one of the biggest threats to the world peace?

You are nieve to think the issue is about whether or not the original War was justified. If you look at the polls you will see a majority of Americans supported the invasion of Iraq, including many democrats. The problems lie in the continued occupation and vastly apparent lack of any type of exit strategy.
The issue is no longer trying to justify the war but rather trying to justify the total mismangement of the Iraq occupation in general and current administrations total clueslessnes on how to extract themselves from it. Basically the current administration must now try to justify themselves being completely and totally inept when it comes to this issue not to mention the countless lies they have told in a pathetic attempt to cover their blunders. Good luck with that.

Study up on your Islam and your knowledge of Arab cultures in general, all this post does is make you look like a uneducated bigot.

Are you aware that pictures of suicide bombers are hung up in school rooms in the Middle East, and that these terrorists are treated as heroes? Are you familiar with the annual ritual of Ashura, in which Muslims cut their own heads with sharp knives and bleed profusely over themselves? Do you know about the concept of jihad, or holy war, which advocates the destruction of all non-believers? For that matter, are you aware of how poorly women are treated in Muslim countries, and how many of them are depressed and miserable because they are forced into subservient roles and required to hide their faces with burkas, etc.? If American women were treated this way in any part of the U.S., you would call that state or region backwards or blind or even "buried in the dark ages," but I guess it's not politically correct in your book to apply this label to Muslim countries.
I suggest you educate YOURSELF about Muslim customs. There is a lot you obviously don't know.

Thanks for the chuckle...
Yes there is some anti-americanism in the middle east...generally in Iran and Libya as well as Iraq yet to make the blanket assumption all Middle Easterner hate the west if just foolish. Hatred of the USA is not a new thing it exists all over the world. Do you really expect everyone to love us when probably 50% of our own people dislike our current administration.
Ashura: as already stated in your thread about this...the practice of Muslin men whipping themselves with ropes with knives on the ends is practiced by a minority of extremists most Muslims use red paint symbolic of blood. As the the case with the pictures you posted earlier. If you think the focus of this Muslim holiday is self mutilation then it only further proves your ignorance. It's actually a holy day where the focus is to fast.
Quote:
Ashura has been a day of fasting for Sunni Muslims since the days of the early Muslim community. It marks two historical events: the day Nuh (Noah) left the Ark, and the day that Musa (Moses) was saved from the Egyptians by Allah.
Shi'a Muslims in particular use the day to commemorate the martyrdom of Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet (pbuh) in 680 CE.
In Shi'ite communities this is a solemn day: plays re-enacting the martyrdom are often staged and many take part in mourning rituals.
Every year in London Shi'a Muslims gather for a mourning procession and speeches at Marble Arch. The procession attracts up to 3000 men, women and children from many different ethinic backgrounds
|
Terrosist treated as heroes?...please show me one case of the general public of any middle eastern country doing this. I might concede the case of the Palestinians but that is even tennuos at best.
Jihad..it's simply the Islamic term for imperialism nothing more. How is this any different then U.S. imperialism and exspansionism in the past two centuries?
Quote:
|
Jihad: It means the legal, compulsory, communal effort to expand the territories ruled by Muslims at the expense of territories ruled by non-Muslims.
|
Women's rights: Some women in the middle east are repressed by our soceities standards this is true..but some are not. I spent 6 months living in Jordan and can surely tell you I meant many women there who were very happy with their lives. If American women here in the U.S. choose to wear "burkas" or veils due to their religious beliefs I would not be so foolish to suggest they are "buried in the dark ages." What you don't seem to understand is that in many cases women in the middle east are choosing to do these things out of respect for their religion rather then because they are forced to by their governments / culture. If you want to rant about women's rights I suggest you turn your attention to Africa where the atrocities against women are far worse.
It's funny to listen to your rants, clearly coming from someone who has never visited the middle east nor studied it's culture. Do you just make this stuff up off the top of your head after seeing a few pictures and reading a few highly biased articles.
