However, the murder rate in America puts the death rate in Iraq to shame.
According to figures released by the FBI, in 2005 . . .
Washington D.C. had 194 murders
Chicago had 352
Philadelphia had 334
Los Angeles (in only the first half of 2005) had 198
Compton, CA, had 72
That's 1150 murders in one year, in only 5 American cities. That death rate is much higher than the yearly average of deaths in Iraq since 2003. The above list does not include some of the most dangerous cities in the country, including Detroit, Philly, New York, Atlanta, Camden, N.J. or St. Louis, which was just declared the most dangerous city in the country.
Simply put, you have a better chance of being killed while walking through many American cities than you do while wearing a military uniform in Iraq.

Wow, I just went back and actually read this more carefully...you actually used raw totals instead of percentages. I had originally presumed you used percentages. Amazing work.
I suppose you also think 2 people killed per year in a population of 20 million is a more dangerous situation than 1 person killed per year in a population of 10 people.
2 is greater than 1, after all.

Re: You think Iraq is dangerous?
Smart
My dad gave me one dollar bill
'Cause I'm his smartest son,
And I swapped it for two shiny quarters
'Cause two is more than one!
And then I took the quarters
And traded them to Lou
For three dimes -- I guess he don't know
That three is more than two!
Just then, along came old blind Bates
And just 'cause he can't see
He gave me four nickels for my three dimes,
And four is more than three!
And I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs
Down at the seed-feed store,
And the fool gave me five pennies for them,
And five is more than four!
And then I went and showed my dad,
And he got red in the cheeks
And closed his eyes and shook his head--
Too proud of me to speak!

Re: You think Iraq is dangerous?
Here's a filmmaker who says the U.S. is more violent than Iraq.
Quote:
MORE fighting goes on in parts of suburban US than Iraq, according to Australian filmmaker George Gittoes who has just finished a documentary set in a Miami "war zone.
Gittoes' latest feature, Rampage, contrasts life for a family living in the blue-collar community of Brown Sub, Miami, with ongoing fighting in Iraq.
"It is much worse in Miami than it is in Baghdad," Gittoes said in Sydney today.
"There is a sense of people with guns, drug dealers lairing at you ... and being there, I knew I was in a war zone."

Click contact us on that page and what do you get:
Published by News Interactive, a News Corporation company
I'm sorry but I don't put too much stock in info coming from news corp. I'm sure this place is dangerous, but to say its worse than an actual war zone is crazy talk.
Just because its an international reporter, doesn't hide the fact that its still coming from Fox.

Re: You think Iraq is dangerous?
Another fact to chew on: The violent death rate in Iraq is 25.71 per 100,000.
In New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina the violent death rate was 53.1. FBI statistics for 2004-05 have Washington at 45.9, Baltimore at 37.7, and Atlanta at 34.9.

give it up talkhard. please, shut up, you are insulting those who actually DO support the war, and insulting to those who actually have the cognitive ability to think for themselves (something obviously you fail to have).
I figured with the season, I'd take you off the ignore list. But you've won your way back on the ignore list.

Ah, yes, the personal insults again. That's always your fall-back position when you can't rebut the facts.
