Re: McCain takes big lead over Obama and Clinton
Well, first of all, Talkhard is a bit fact challenged as usual. The polls show a lead of 3-9% with 9% uncetainty. Hardly a "big lead".
Trying to predict the race in March is like trying to predict what the Blazers will do in summer 2009. There is too much time and too many things can happen.
McCain is getting great press (all those barbecues and open bars have an impact on the media, to be sure); his ignorance on Iran got one paragraph buried in a news summary in the "ultra-liberal" San Francisco Chronicle. But how much love he'll get from the populace when he makes it clear he is running for a 3rd Bush term is a big if. And yes, depends on whether people can be scared enough to vote for what they don't want.
But here is a question for Talkhard. He blocks my posts so could someone bring it to his attention?
Talkhard says McCain does not have to show his patriotic credentials by wearing a flag pin since he established them by his military service and sacrifice. Fair enough. Talkhard honors the service of veterans like McCain, John Kerry and Max Cleland and considers them patriots by default. Cool. But Bush and Cheney both avoided service in a war they claim to have supported. So my question is: had they not worn flag pins, would Talkhard have questioned their patriotism? Had they not worn flag pins, would Talkhard have decided not to vote for them?

But George Bush is attacking all evil in the world in the name of America, that shows his patriotism right there.

Somebody's getting all twisted up in their own "logic." You really shouldn't try so hard. You could hurt yourself.
The fact is, conservatives don't need to prove their credentials when it comes to love of country. Patriotism is an integral part of their philosophy. It's liberals who have a hard time saying anything good about America, or singing the national anthem, or supporting our troops, etc., etc. Liberals are always badmouthing their country, and everything we have seen from Obama and his pastor only supports this well-known fact.

obviously you're asking a rhetorical question. To get the special double standard pass on this bleep you've got to play for the NeoCon team. Heck Reverend Wright served his country as a Marine and dedicated his life's work to helping the poor but really he's only a terrible racist who hates America and white people... what's even more indicting is he helped an ailing Democratic president (the traitor!)

Re: McCain takes big lead over Obama and Clinton
When I watched the news today they showed poll numbers favoring Obama over McCain and McCain over Clinton... so, yeah, the polls are pretty inconsequential at this point.

Re: McCain takes big lead over Obama and Clinton
Polls are just all over the place lately. Pew Research today has Obama over Clinton by 10 points, Obama over McCain by 6, Clinton over McCain by 5. On the other hand, Rasmussen has McCain over Obama and Clinton by 10 each, and Clinton over Obama by 2.

Re: McCain takes big lead over Obama and Clinton
I don't see why people are looking at polls now anyway. Who cares who's up and who's down in freaking March? It's like when I tuned into tonight's game and we were up 26-12. We lost 111-95. A lot of stuff can happen in the next seven months.

Why did you tune into the game in the first quarter? I don't see why people watch the first quarter. Who cares about the freaking first quarter?
It's about being a fan. Otherwise, we could just read the scores in the newspaper the next day (or the day after the election).

So, here's how it shakes out.
If you support continuing the Iraq war for 100 years, even though every reason given for starting the war turned out to be false and every prediction turned out to be wrong, you are a patriot.
If you support equal rights for women including equal pay and think, unlike the Supreme Court, that women are intelligent enough to make our own reproductive choices, you are anti-America.
If you want to continue economic policies that have resulted in hard-working people losing jobs, homes and life savings while corporations hide in tax shelters and the super-rich get richer, you are patriotic.
If you think corporations should clean up their own environmental messes and favor protecting endangered species, you are anti-America.
If you support billions in taxpayer dollars given in no-bid contracts to well-connected companies with no review, no oversight, no accountability, even if they commit fraud, overcharge, deliver bad product/services behind schedule or don't deliver at all while hiding their profits in overseas tax shelters, you are patriotic.
If you support children's health insurance and increasing veterans' benefits, you are anti-America.
If you agree with Hurrican Katrina rebuilding funds being used to build luxury condos for the wealthy while poor people still live in toxic trailers, you are patriotic.
If you support stem cell research and comprehensive, medically accurate sex education, you are anti-America.
And last but not least....
If you agree with Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson that the September 11 attacks resulted from God's wrath on America over women's rights and teaching science in public schools, or if you agree with Dinesh D'Souza that liberals are to blame for September 11 attacks because their support of family planning and gay rights caused so much justifiable anger among conservative Saudi Muslims that they could not refrain from attacking the US; if you agree with John Yoo that torture is OK if the president says so, including crushing the testicles of a child, if you support 900,000 Americans including infants on no-fly list, imprisonment for life without charges or trial and Total Information Awareness, if you think the president should have unlimited powers and should be able to govern in secrecy, you are patriotic.
If you still believe in the words of the International Declaration of Human Rights, the Declaration of Independence, the inscription of the Statute of Liberty, and the Magna Carta, if you want to uphold the United States Constitution, you are anti-America.
