You might want to consider the following quote, also from "Dreams of My Father":

I think you misread what he was saying. It wasn't that he agreed with it but that while X did happen, Z was still bothering him.

As in, while he agreed with some of the things Malcolm X might have said, it bothered him that he said that considering he's part white.

But hey, he's a black guy. So, he's bad.

Here's the rest of the quote, just for your edification:

It's pretty clear to me that Obama has problems with the idea of his whiteness, and is trying to put it behind him and blend in with the black culture. You put this statement together with others he has made, such as referring to his grandmother as "a typical white person," and it's clear that he doesn't think much of the white part of his heritage.
