Next time you hear Al Gore fulminating on the looming disaster of global warming, consider a few other environmentalist's predictions over the years:

At the first Earth Day celebration, in 1969, environmentalist Nigel Calder warned, "The threat of a new ice age must now stand alongside nuclear war as a likely source of wholesale death and misery for mankind."

C.C. Wallen of the World Meteorological Organization said, "The cooling since 1940 has been large enough and consistent enough that it will not soon be reversed."

In 1968, professor Paul Ehrlich, former Vice President Al Gore's hero and mentor, predicted that there would be a major food shortage in the U.S. and "in the 1970s . . . hundreds of millions of people are going to starve to death."

Ehrlich forecast that 65 million Americans would die of starvation between 1980 and 1989, and that by 1999 the U.S. population would have declined to 22.6 million.

Ehrlich's predictions about England were gloomier: "If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000."

What kind of board is this??? I titled this thread "Environmentalist Wackos on Parade," and some moderator changed it to "Environmentalists I disagree with on Parade." Surely even those of you on the Left have to agree that this is censorship gone crazy.

I attacked no one on this board. I simply stated that people who make ludicrous predictions about the environment (and the examples I cite are ludicrous, indeed) are "wackos." Has political correctness completely taken over this board now? What's next--making us all sign a "politeness oath" in which we agree never to state opinions in strong or colorful language? Or will we just have to wear saffron colored robes and march in lockstep up to the temple of Dendur to have our minds purged of all unholy thoughts?

How about you stop posturing as this poor crucified figure? You've previously stated you love to bait those you politically disagree with these sorts of threads and baiting is clearly stated as against the rules. If you want to have a discussion on something, just leave out the vitriol. It's that simple!

If you want to generate flame wars, maybe you should indulge in one of the many other discussion boards where that is the norm instead of attacking (yet again) our unpaid mods for doing the tough job of drawing the line on whats permitted under the rules. Believe me, we'll get over the missing melodrama.

I'm still waiting to see a poster reprimanded for saying something vicious about George Bush. That is done regularly around here, to all-around applause. But if you say anything negative about "environmentalists," God forbid!!! That's not tolerated.

To be fair, I think if your thread was titled "Hilarious: Scientists make terrible predictions" or something of the like it would have been left alone. The name calling kind of puts it in a different category...
