A pastor gave a talk to a group of boy scouts at a college in Texas, in his talk, he told them to learn the constitution and the bill of rights, and he spoke against the US Patriot Act.

He got called into the university president's office(who was shaking like a leaf), and two men from the department of Homeland Security threatened to charge him with terrorism and espinoge if he didn't cease and desist.

This **** is real! This is not Communist Russia, this is not Nazi German, this is the USA!

This is disgusting. Why am I not surprised it happened in Texas?

The guy is lucky he didn't wind up like Riad Hammad.

For those not familiar with the story: Hammad was a Moslem-American peace activist in Austin Texas. When his body was found floating in a lake, the police raced to call it suicide - despite the fact he was found gagged, blinfolded, and with his hands bound!

For the record, I am not claiming "the government" killed him. The more likely scenario is that he was the victim of a hate crime. The police are covering it up because it was their very public harasment of the man that made him a target.

I dont doubt that its true. What surprises me though is that everyone seems to up in arms. Stuff like this has been happening for a long time. People are becoming more and more apathetic. Even if someone like Obama wins, things like this will still be going on behind the scenes.

People like Michelle Obama say they haven't been proud of their country in 25 years . . .

The leading Democratic candidate for President refuses to wear a flag pin because of "what it represents . . . "

None of this is alarming or offensive, but we're supposed to be outraged when a pastor isn't allowed to spew anti-American propaganda to a bunch of young impressionable boyscouts . . .?

On Monday, the wife of presidential candidate Barack Obama told an audience in Wisconsin that, "For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country because voters are hopeful and ready for change."

In an interview with WJAR-TV today, according to the Associated Press, the would-be First Lady said she said she was trying to express pride in how Americans are engaging in the political process right now.

She also said she’s proud of the country and wouldn’t be where she is if not for its possibilities.

Flag pins and bumper stickers do not a patriot make. Especially when what is "represents" is often: bandwagoning, knee-jerk, if you don't do everything I consider to be patriotic you must be a terrorist, ignore real issues and argue about pins, post-911 misguided anger.

Neither did the first World Trade Center bombing. Neither have all the plots that have been stopped that we've never heard of. What's your point?

I notice Sen. Obama put on the flag pin today when speaking to veterans. It's always nice to see that he shares those superficial beliefs.

I disagree. I think people are much less accepting of acts done by the government that people view as violating our civil rights. It's just that we're better informed than we were 50-60 years ago.

My point was simply to add context to TH's post. He often leaves out and spins information to further his view. My point was only to add information for someone who might be fresh to the spin zone.

It's sad that any candidate's decision to wear or not to wear a tiny pin is a topic of discussion. I don't think it makes him more patriotic for wearing it just I don't think it makes you patriotic to wear american flag boxers or a air-brushed t-shirt of a bald eagle.
