Re: Obama rally was fueled by free rock concert
I wasn't surprised to see that kind of turnout for Sen. Obama--he's a political rock star. His speeches are real happenings. He sounds great and says inspirational things. People feel great when they leave his rallies.
The point is that I could say the same things about a lot of acts. I'm not trying to diminish Sen. Obama, but that's what his rallies are in my opinion; they're acts, not much different from a popular band coming to town.
I've been trying to figure out why so many people I respect and admire are supporting him so vociferously and I can't get my arms around it. The only answer I've come up with is an answer that doesn't say good things about those people I respect and admire, so I have to keep searching.

Maybe the problem is within you instead of within everyone else. I find it interesting that you are looking for everyone else's faults first.

Maybe it's not a matter of faults. Perhaps it's just a matter of differing ways of looking at and thinking about the world.

Did I state my point so clumsily that you couldn't understand what I was saying, or are you simply being intentionally obtuse? Allow me to restate it: I haven't been able to see what others do in Sen. Obama except for something unflattering. Hence, I am continuing to search for the answer rather than to accept my premise.
If the point of your post was just to call me a jackhole, just do it directly.

Nah, I don't share the same belief system that the vast majority of posters in here do, therefore I'm evil.

Cool it.
If you want to continue to put words into the mouths of posters, I can't stop you. If I wanted to call you a "jackhole," best believe I would. I'm not being obtuse in the slightest. Did I state my point so clumsily blah blah blah. Let me restate it.
If lots people you respect have a viewpoint and your only explanation of that view is to come to unflattering conclusions about them, have you considered that you are wrong about the original premise?

He's supposed to look inside himself to figure out why other people like Obama?
I don't know that I understand how that really could work.

I assume you know what I meant and are just being argumentative. Whatever.

Decemberists are not even close to being considered a "popular" rock band.

I am now of the mind that I didn't state it poorly, but that you read what you wished to read instead. My FIRST consideration was that I am wrong, which is why I continue to search. Of course, you apparrently wish to think that I believe myself to be without fault. That's a conclusion that bares no relation to what I've posted.

Folks, kindly quit debating each others ethics, morals, motives, etc...and debate the topic or we'll have to close this one.
