People who vote against Barak because they agree with McCain on the issues or want a more experienced person as president is one thing, but those that buy into the fear that Obama is Muslim or because he is Black are just plain ignorant. West Virginia has the lowest graduation rate in the nation and the second lowest medium household income. And unfortunately, poor education and a depressed economy are a breeding ground for ignorant and racist views.
Sad that there's prejudice in the world, but this is news? And, if some of those ignorant souls don't know that Obama's not Muslim, is that their fault or the Obama campaign's given that they spent about 15 minutes in Kentucky and West Virginia?
Very sad! Things are the same down south as they were in the 50' and 60's! Amazing!
Sadder still, they're not.
They're much, much better now, but we don't talk about the killings and torture that was common back then.

Well... did they think Hillary was Muslim before she campaigned there? Did you think Obama was Muslim prior to his campaigning in Oregon?
I think it was a mistake for Obama to spend so little time in the woods drinkin' moonshine and squealin' like a pig, but they've got TVs and newspapers and the Internets out there.

do you think maybe just possibly the conservative hate machine media spewing the Barack is a secret evil Muslim bleep for months on end might have had something to do with their misconceptions? Or is this all Barack's fault?

Conservative hate machine media? No. Some anti-Obama websites and e-mails by some misguided jerks who may call themselves conservatives; sure. The internet has become a political force for disinformation by all sorts of nutjobs, which is why it's incumbent upon candidates to get out and present their message to as many people as possible. Obama wrote off West Virginia and Kentucky and barely campaigned in either state.
People vote for (and against) candidates for all kinds of reasons. We'd like to think that our democratic process was one where informed voters make decisions to vote for candidates that most represent their views. That's true for a lot of people, but it's also true that people make decisions for reasons of hate and prejudice and that they often vote in ignorance. That's just an unfortunate but inherent part of an open election process.
The one thing that this election has taught me is that, calling oneself a moslem in this country is basically putting a poster on one head's asking to be hated on
