that's what I'm thinking. for a few days or weeks, maybe even a month, there'd be outrage about Hillary.

sort of like when Portland traded Sebastian Telfair for Roy. for a few weeks there were a lot of Telfair homers squawking about losing him. but at some point you have to get past that and look at what the new guy (or lady) is bringing in.

besides, there's nothing intrinsically interesting about Hillary as a human being. she's not really a feminist ideal. the only reason she's been a candidate is because of her husband. she's not a dynamic, personable speaker, and she was kind of a doormat during the whole Monica thing. she's not terribly moral. she's smart and strong-willed, and that's about it. when you get down to it, she appeals to that demographic mainly because that demographic sees that (under-appreciated) strength and intelligence in themselves.

if you feed that demographic somebody else with the same age, sex and race as Hillary and throw in some similar redeeming features, I think it wouldn't take long for them to get behind her.

On the surface, it looks like the Democratic Dream Ticket. But beneath the surface, she just declared for 2012 and is running against Sen. Obama in the general campaign.

First, she splits the headlines

Second, she forces Obama's hand to deal with the VP decision before he's ready.

Third, he's going to force him to either ask her, which makes him look like a typical pol and not a change agent. If he does ask her, she'll find a reason to decline. If he doesn't ask her (which she hopes he won't), he exaserbates the already angry Clinton base-- older women, Latinos and working-class voters. Those are exactly the voters that have crossed over and voted Republican before.

Make no mistake, she doesn't want the VP slot. What she also doesn't want is for Sen. Obama to become President Obama. By sending this message, she's tripping up Sen. Obama's first steps in the general.

This is a stunning development.
You are reading things into the situation which have no importance in reality.

Hillary is a non-factor at this point and few Dems will vote for McCain regardless of who Obama has as a running mate.
