Re: Will Clinton supporters "turn coat" and vote Republican?
Its hard for me to imagine that these same Democratic women will go over and vote for a man that stands for everything they are against. I think when it finally dawns on these women what will happen when Mccain gets into office, they will reluctantly vote for Obama. Besides, going through Obama's record, he has voted on issues that democratic women support, the same cannot be said for Mccain.
Here's an interesting poll I found today
Obama Gains Amongst Women

PRINCETON, NJ -- Since Hillary Clinton decided to concede the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama last week, Obama has established a lead over Republican John McCain in general-election polling. Obama's gains have come more from women than men, though he has picked up among both groups in recent days.

I don't think the risk is that Hillary Clinton's female base votes for Sen. McCain, I think the risk is they can't be mobilized to help the Obama campaign and they just don't vote.
It should be noted that in the latest WSJ/NBC poll (and what is a Fox-owned entity and NBC doing together?) that McCain leads among white men and suburban women. That soccer mom vote was strongly behind Hillary, and Sen. Obama is going to have to do something to reach out to them. How? I have no idea. I doubt Sen. Clinton is going be of much help; she's incentivized to see him lose.

At worst they wont vote, that I agree. But for them to go against everything they fought for and stand for, to try and prove a point, just doesnt make any sense to me. They say most of Hillary's supporters are older women, these are the same women who fought for Roe Vs Wade and pro choice issues. It would be completely asinine for them to go and vote for a man who is against that.
Regarding the WSJ/NBC poll, not really surprised about the white men vote. The Democratic party typically has problems with that group

You're assuming that these women that supported Sen. Clinton were issue-based. My argument is that they were more gender-based. In 2004, President Bush earned 55% of the white female vote, aka the "soccer mom" vote, who looked to security more than any other issue. And frankly, some of these older women aren't as concerned about freedom of choice as they once were, if you know what I'm saying.

Absolutely. I only included that demographic because many of those white men are the blue collar workers with whom Sen. Obama needs to connect.

Re: Will Clinton supporters "turn coat" and vote Republican?
I believe the thought by Hillary supporteres is not so much Obama stole the nomination from her as nuch as it was that Hillary was treated with a lack of respect by the politcal process and particularly by the press.
Hillary is a idol to many women who lived in a tough time period where men were treated as superior to women. That issue isn't completely corrected, but was much worse 20-30 years ago. Hillary has overcome a lot of adversity in her life including a cheating husband and has dealt with the adversity with strength and class. She is the poster woman for a strong minded, independent woman who was a good wife, mother, career woman and first lady (not a fluff first lady but one who wanted to personally take on real national issues.) She help break many stereotypes that have been placed on woman by society.
Hillary supporters watched their hero get, what they believe, unfair treatment in the press. I've got to say that I'm shocked at the words used to describe her both on this board and in the media. I guess truth can be a defense to the treatment, but I know when I question my mom about some of the things said on this board and in the media . . . that is what upsets her more than anything (not the fact Obamam won). She, and her group of friends, truly believe that Hillary was unfairly called vicious names (in her way of communcating, they would call Hillary every bad name they could think of and it is inhumane) and that she was not repected as a real candidate.
She is sick of the political process and will not vote this election. All that might just be sour grapes, but trying to give a perspective of why some won't vote. She has never implied taht she is even thinking about voting for McCAin, she just is not going to vote in this election.

Re: Will Clinton supporters "turn coat" and vote Republican?
There is no credible reason a Democrat would vote for McCain over Obama other than racism.
Women can claim it's some sort of twisted revenge (on whom? their children? themselves? the world?) , but it's clear racism is the reason.

No offense, but that's the most childish, selfish excuse I have ever heard for shirking the duty of voting for President. If she's purposely not voting, her opinion carries no weight with me. Evil feeds on apathy, so she's shooting herself, and her "group" in the foot by tipping the scales back to the good ole boys network.

What if a Democrat preferred McCain's stance on the War on Terror over Obama's position? What if a Democrat were pro-life? In those cases, would it still be racism?
