An incident that forces me to re-evaluate my beliefs.
Could it be that I actually now like Matt Damon?

A friend of mine sat courtside with Matt Damon in seats to the left of the Lakers' bench. During the third quarter, with Damon cheering on the Celtics in a green Celtics cap -- great job by him, by the way -- Phil Jackson barked at Damon, according to my friend, "Sit down and shut the f--- up."
|
I was once assaulted by "Hoops", the mascot of the Washington Bullets, during a Lez Boulez/Blazer game in DC, the footage of which made the 11:00news so they wouldn't have to discuss how the Bullets lost by 30. That incident pales in comparison to being told to sit down and shut the **** up by the head coach on his home floor.
Well done, Mr. Damon. Well done.

Matt Damon seems like he'd be a fun celebrity to hang out and party with.
Go Celtics! BEAT LA!

Re: An incident that forces me to re-evaluate my beliefs.
Here's a great Matt Damon story:
A friend of my daughter moved to NY to try and become an actress. She's invited to some big party and so goes to a small dress shop to find something for the big night. She comes out of the dressing room wearing a beautiful dress, and aside from her boyfriend, Matt Damon and his wife had entered the store.
Everyone comments how pretty she looks and she says something like "oh well, there's no way I could afford this dress." When she comes back out of the dressing room, Matt Damon was gone, but not before buying the dress for her.
He's a great guy.

Okay, that story seals it for me. I'm now a member of the Matt Damon Fan Club.

Oh yeah, he grew up in Cambridge/Arlington. I just love how he could get so deep inside the Zen Master's head that he would yell at him.

You should indeed re-evaluate your beliefs. Matt Damon is quite the liberal. He consorts with Ben Affleck, who graduated from Barack Obama's liberal college, the little-known but top-25 Occidental College near Hollywood.

It's shocking to believe, but growing up in Oregon, spending years in graduate school and living in places like DC, Manhattan and Scandinavia, I actually know people a little left of center. See, a person's political persuasion doesn't impact my opinion of them, only whether or not they've thought through the reasons the way they do. You'd be amazed at the number of people that don't bother to get beneath the bumper-sticker, much less prioritizing first principles.
As for Oxy, I know it well and have visited many times as one of my best friends went there. I wasn't aware that Ben Affleck went there. Of course, the mere mention of it makes me want a chiliburger from Tommy's, so I'll be drooling all day.

Well said. I think we should all be able to disagree without being disagreeable.
And when my daughter told me that Matt Damon story, it sealed it for me too (and apparently it was not a inexpensive dress.)

Mmm, Tommy's double-chili cheeseburgers at 4am. Them were the days. The days of a cast-iron stomach.

Re: An incident that forces me to re-evaluate my beliefs.
No one had heard of a Tommy's when I was there. You young punks had it made later on. For me, McDonald's was brand new and I lived off it till I got sick of it, when Clancy's cafeteria closed for the summer.

Tommy's was great, but for my money, I will take a Fatburger (which, btw, is now up in the Seattle area!)
