Why I want the Lakers to win (don't judge!)
So, that is my confession. I want the Lakers to win this year. I know, I know. Heresy. I know.
But hear me out and at least understand my irrational rationale.
It all started in 2002.
When I still followed the NFL, I followed the Rams.
Born and raised in Missouri, I was gutted when the Cardinals moved to Arizona and I was so happy to have a team back in St. Louis. IAfter rejoiced the Super Bowl in 2000, having experienced my first taste of Championship Fever. (I was too young to remember the 82 baseball Cardinals, but I remember the losses in '85 and '87). We were lead by everyone's feel good story -- bag boy turned QB, Kurt Warner. The world was grand. On our way to our second title in 3 years, it was snatched away at the last second by Brand and Vinatieri.
Then a similar feeling happened in 2004.
I'm a die hard, life-long St. Louis Cardinals Fan. The Red Sox were a tortured, "cursed", franchise. As we went into the 2004 World Series, I calmly and assuredly remarked to friends, "Hey, if we have to lose -- at least it's to the Red Sox, they deserve it after all these years, and all those miserable Yankee fans."
Well, you know what happened.
The Sox won in 4, the world was littered with Irish Green BoSox Jerseys and Pink BoSox hats. Everyone talked about how they "always loved the Sox", the Red Sox Nation appeared to permeate every great sports city in the country (I say appeared, because it was more of a few *******s being loud and obnoxious and making their presence seem "bigger" that it really is). The Red Sox and their fans shot up the ladder of most annoying franchises in the world surpassing the team I disliked the most: The New York Yankees.
The Sox outspent the Yankees and with their new found success were unfathomably irritating. Bill Simmons (who I love, like a deep manly love) wrote his next 7,000 columns about it. Red Sox fans came to a Braves-Cardinals game I attended in Atlanta, just to boo the Arch and other St. Louis Monuments. It was awful.
Torture. All at the expense of my team. My sanity. I blame myself for accepting their win before the series started.
My last two attempts at vicarious glory, stolen by a Boston team.
I moved to New York for work, where I bought season tickets to Red Bull New York. I was excited about Juan Pablo and young Jozy Altidore. Everyone said that D.C. was the biggest rival for us, but it took one game against New England, one bus trip to the stadium with a group of Revolution fans to identify them as the enemy. They were loud and obnoxious and self-entitled and cocky. They were Patriots fans. They were Red Sox fans. And now, with their soccer club always in the post season mix, they were Revolution Fans. Ugh.
So it was only fitting that in the MLS playoffs, they gave our star player (Angel) and concussion and while he was on the sidelines being treated, they scored the goal needed to oust the Red Bulls from the playoffs. *******s.
Oh, and they didn't shut up about it. On and on about the Red Sox and the undefeated Patriots and the newly revamped Celtics. It became feasible that they might win championship in 4 leagues!
Everyone was now a Boston fan. People who couldn't name 3 players were claiming to have "always" been fans. It was gross.
While this was happening, I was getting acclimated to New York life. I had never lived so close to so many Boston sports fans. I could see, first hand, that they were completely unashamed to be rooting for a group of no-good, cheating, whining sports franchises. They didn't know how lucky they were and still acted like they were the ******* children of the sports world. That every league owed them something (nevermind the recent World Series Titles, the Patriots Dynasty, and the NBA Record # of Banners). In fact, I went to the MLS Final in November just in hopes of seeing a Boston team fail when it mattered.
Luckily, the Revolution are the Buffalo Bills of the MLS and they lost for the 3rd straight year. 2 months later, the Patriots crumble to the unlikely Giants in the biggest choke job in the NFL and now, their NBA team -- led by the idiot tandem of Doc Rivers and Danny Ainge are posed to turn the worst team in the league into a Champion! In a years time. The last vestige of miserable Boston teams was given new life by tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum.
And while, i've spent my entire basketball life rooting against the Lakers, I'm turning to Kobe + Company and urging them to make Finals history by coming back and smashing the dreams of everyone named Sully and Murph. I want them to take the small championship window the Celtics have and throw a purple and piss brick through it.
I'm sorry Blazers fans,
I'm rooting for L.A.

I want them to win so I can see one more basketball game before I am subjected to watching highlights of baseball, nascar, and the tour de france up until the Olympics.

Don't judge?
There's no judgment involved. Do you not remember that one line out of your Blazers fan pledge of allegiance..."Never, ever, under any circumstance shall a true Blazer fan root for the Los Angeles Lakers to win."
Shame, stockfire, shame.

Re: Why I want the Lakers to win (don't judge!)
I hate the Celts so much. I want them to lose so bad more then anything. I never want KG or Pierce to enjoy being called champions. Unfortunately I hate the Lakers even more. Your on your own on this one stockfire.
Would anyone root for the Lakers if there son was playing on the team?

Re: Why I want the Lakers to win (don't judge!)
I remember in another post someone said it would be cool to be able too lower peoples reps, besides just making it bigger. You know if that was true stock would be setting the record for lowest rep.

you know, I agreed with every single word stockfire posted there. And I still was cheering for the Celtics, because the LA has everything that's bad about Boston without the good things.

Ha.
Oh well.
Did anyone else think throwing alley-oops in the last few minutes while up by 40 was low class?

Didn't see it but I would think it is. Then again Boston is a low class team. Didn't they act like they won the championship when they beat the Pistons in the beginning of the season? I remember the Pistons were saying "Umm ok? You beat us now but it doesn't mean much now."
