Im sorry but that happened when Saddam was in power, not after he was gone. Would you like to see the whip marks on my dad's back to prove it to you?
Look, I fully understand that the US didnt go over there because of the injustice the Iraqi people had to deal with, but like it or not all this crap the country is going through is gonna be for the better. You cant even imagine they stories I heard of Saddam doing mass executions, random torture, etc. He killed more than you could ever imagine. People were so terrified that they couldnt/wouldnt talk to their own family about politics in fear of being taken away and tortured to death. People would be taken away and tourtured just for looking the wrong way...literally

Re: I have lots of family in Baghdad, they say...
I want our presence in that country reduced but not because I'm some hippy liberal commie, but rather I think financially it could submarine our country in the coming years -- to me it's a trade-off (and a very delicate balance): "paying" (with lives and borrowing vast sums of money) to secure access to the second largest oil reserves in the world, or leave it (the Middle East and Iraq) alone and be at the whim of other governments for our energy needs? I'm not sure, but I somehow doubt that the trillions of debt we're racking up is ever going to be offset by this improved access. Whatever happens I really want to see our country start moving away from a carbon based economy and start to really put our historic ingenuity and resources into improving energy efficiency, solar, wind, geothermal, and other means of energy production.
If things are quieting down that makes me very happy to hear, and I couldn't care less what the ramifications are for domestic politics, and whether or not a turd sandwich or a douche gets elected this November (obligatory South Park reference -- sorry); I think I can tolerate either Obama or McCain, as I think neither are completely crazy, incompetent, or stupid.

Thank you for reminding us how awful the Ba'athists were in Iraq. Good riddance to them. I often think death is too good for those maggots.

Same game, new players.
Ask some of your uncle's former neighbors, currently being tortured all around the world on orders from Bush/Cheney. Do you really think a 2-bit thug like Saddam could ever be as cruel as our own home-grown sadists? Have a little American Pride!

Birds of a feather should flock together, IMO.
If only there were a big enough room somewhere to lock ALL you hate-mongerers in with each other, so the majority of the world could simply enjoy life in peace.
A few bad apples...

Re: I have lots of family in Baghdad, they say...
Just when things are looking good, two bombings in less than a week killing 85 and injuring many more:
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A female suicide bomber blew herself up among policemen outside a restaurant north of Baghdad on Sunday, killing 15 people and wounding 35, Iraqi police said.

Name calling. Sweet. So, now I'm equal to the Husseins?
I just think it's cute that you believe that the goal of all nations is to live in peace, freedom and prosperity and that only the "hate-mongers" are the problem. I hate to break it to you, but evil does exist in this world, and sometimes you have to fight it.
What's funny is that you call me a hate-monger when in fact, you've shown much more hate and intolerance on this board than I ever have.

Thanks for the first-hand report, DaRizzle, but the good news has been coming in from Iraq for quite awhile now. The cut-and-run crowd has been very quiet lately, and trying to talk about other things, for obvious reasons. Thank God that our troops have stayed and fought the good fight, and thank God we have a president who stuck to his guns despite the defeatists in Congress and the media. Our efforts in Iraq are something to be extremely proud of; we have liberated the Iraqi people and given them a chance at a better life, and that's going to make a huge difference in the Middle East.

Why don't you share what you know? It might do some good for the blame-America-first crowd around here.

No amount of information would ever change the minds of those who believe we're the cause of all the world's problems. It's the curse of being rich, free and alive all at the same time. The guilt many people feel for that circumstance has become a religion with America as the Great Satan and anyone who opposes us as the Apostles.
