Brooklyn Bridge Waterfall!
Four new waterfalls opened today on the East River in New York, including one right under the Brooklyn Bridge. Check it out here:

Those are cool. They definitly look better from the angle in the picture you posted. From the side they look out of place because you can see the structure that supports it.

Really? It is a waste of money just because you deem it so? What about to all the business with views of it which reap in money. What about residences that havea view of it, and their property values increase? What about tourism increases? How much is that worth? Is it still a waste of money now?

If you actually believe this failed attempt at art will increase the value of anything, other than the "artist's" bank account, then I've got some swampland I'd like to sell you.

I would have before, but it looks like it's sprung a leak.

Yeah, those damn artists and their vast richness. I'm so tired of these rich artists running the world, what, with their not-starving and all. Damn rich artists.

I love art, and purchase it frequently, and view it in galleries and museums big and small when I travel, and I realize it's usually a matter of personal taste if someone considers something good art or bad art.
IMO, The Brooklynn Bridge is an artwork itself, and all this does is detract from it's graceful form and make it appear to be under construction.
I find people like Olafur Eliasson and Cristo to be boring opportunists with little creativity or imagination who have succeeded in reaping huge amounts of money from civic and private arts donors which otherwise might have been used to bring beauty into the world and helped support some people who deserved it.
How many David's and Mona Lisa's will never come to fruition because the money went to these temporary blights on the landscape?
In order to see both extremes of good and bad art come to Beautiful Central Oregon and drive all the roundabouts in Bend.

Yep, that's the point when I stopped reading. The fact that you believe you can summarize me based on the geographic location I've held for approximately a year and half, tells me you aren't interested in a serious discussion.

I meant it in jest, but take it personally if you like.

Re: Brooklyn Bridge Waterfall!
How about the poor salmon who die trying to ascend its purple slopes? Do they think it's beautiful? How many trees died to build this thing? Do the homeless songbirds warble as slow starvation paralyzes them in the barren woods? Why a monument to poured concrete? Instead of this temple to Neptune, the sponge artist could have built 1000 new concrete houses for poor people, or 10 basketball courts for rich players at their mansions. What about noise pollution? The place used to be quiet, except for the cars overhead. I cry for the lost David's and Mona Lisa's sacrificed for this atrocious assault upon the traditions of human sensibility. This attempt to mitigate and medicate the frayed nerves of New Yorkers, who all suck except those who have lived there about a year and a half, constitutes aid and abetment to the Al Qaeda terrorists who gaze upon its soothing shores. Imagine my disgust when on this Fourth of July I perchanced upon this ode to foreign influence within our unprotected borders. Let us hope that the regular board again soon occupies my attention with news of another draft or another ill-begotten theft of a team.
