Take the old historic highway and check out the other falls like Latourell Falls.

Re: cool stuff to do around multnomah falls?
I'm actually taking a trip out from Boise to the Oregon Coast in August. While driving through the gorge I want to stop at the Maryhill Museum, which has some great Rodin artwork and a really nice chess set collection. I also dig what I call "faux henge," a concrete replica of Stone Henge. Kind of a weird place--all built by a guy named Sam Hill (as in "What in Sam Hill did they think they'd prove by making a stone henge out of poured concrete?") Here's the link: http://www.maryhillmuseum.org/home.html
Also, there's a pretty interesting salmon/sturgeon exhibit right around the big damn, as I recall.
Might also be worth doing a circuit around Mt Hood, if you are up for a longer drive.
Years ago I had fish and chips at the Full Sail brewery in Hood River. So good I still remember them. I don't remember the tour, and I'm sure I went on it.

I'm only doing it as a 1/2 day trip as I need to get back to PDX in time for Happy Hour!

Oh. Then the falls/hike/Edgefield sounds like a pretty decent itinerary.
If you go to the Edgefield, check out the bar next to the golf course. They do fresh-squeezed orange juice there, gin and cigars. I love me my gin and juice with a nice Macanudo. It's so hard to find a place that does gin and orange with fresh-squeezed juice. Only $5.

I was with someone who ran across the railing of the bridge. I don't suggest it though =).

If it's hot hit Oneonta Gorge which is right past Multonomah Falls on the old highway. When you get there hike down the hillside by the bridge and just walk up the creak about 3/4 mile. U have to climb over logs and rocks at points as well as wade but it's worth it. At the end is a gorgeous waterfall that u can swim under. Great for a hot day.

There's a great nude beach out that way as well.
